The Effects of Slavery

It was 200 years ago that the government passed the act for the abolistion of slavery, which is all very well and good, but what they could not abolish were the inbedded views of white people (majority of them) on being slightly better than the black society.
Which, of course is a load of rubbish. To anyone out there that holds this belief, think again, we are all made up the same, blood, organs, skin and brain. If one lived in very hot countries we too would be dark skinned stands to reason don't you think.
It is because of this reason that things are not equal in many areas of life. For instance, education, it may look as if we get the same chances but how many teachers do you think there are in the world today that give more time and help to kids they prefer. Too many.
Apart from dealing with over-crowded classrooms if you have anything else that could hinder your learning it will put you way back.
But in my view it is because many black people have to put up with so much prejudices in life that they can cope with problems easier they have had no choice but to get used to it.
Things need to change drastically don't you think?
What is your opinion on this very delicate issue, please I really would like to know
Denise

It said to see that one race can say that there better then another race. If you really think about it what is race in the first place? Just because your different colored skin or look different doesn't mean your a different race. We simply are just 1 race. Seeing and hearing about what blacks had to go through during slavery is just depressing and sometimes makes me feel ashamed of being white. Also do you think that racism is learned or is it born in us as fear? Do you think the whites were more or less scared of the blacks because they were different looking then them, like when a baby sees a dog for the first time. All in all i think racism is slowly ending but I don't think it will ever go away.

In my experience, I've found that it's the darker-skinned peoples who are keeping racism in the forefront. Maybe it's where I live in rural Iowa, but I've seen very little racism in my life. I've taught Black children and loved them just the same as the white ones. Actually, I don't even think about the color of anyone's skin, because it has never mattered to me. However, I am tired of dealing with people who scream "Racism!" at every little thing. I had one Black student who had severe behavior problems. He was a menace to himself and to everyone around him. He was the most challenging student I ever worked with. Yet, every time anyone suggested he be disciplined, his white mother would start screaming that he was being picked on because of his race. That wasn't at all true, and that child could have benefitted from being held accountable for his actions. He wasn't even 20 years old when he was sentenced to prison for attempted murder.

If this gives you any solace, then you should know that slavery was imposed by the white people on the dark-skinned people of other nations while there are countries in this world, where privileged people of one country treat the underprivileged on their own nation like slaves and worse. I give the example of my own country India, where inspite of the many changes in peoples’ outlook, things haven’t really changed much for these marginalized sections of the society. Hindu society is divided into castes according to the profession of the people and this was rigidly followed by all for centuries. Such is the impact of this caste system that even today people who for generations have had lowly professions like sweepers, porters, craftsmen, farmers, fishermen etc are looked down upon by the upper caste like priests, landlords etc. if this is not racism, then what else is it? so my friend you are not alone, many many in my own country suffer this ignominy day in day out with the worst result of being killed if anyone from the lower caste dares protest against the atrocities of the upper caste.

you are right. i am also asian and have seen racial discrimination but i also think that white people are dominant creatures or human beings compared to any other colored people. maybe it is because of genes. it is like they have super minds but then again we are all the same. and we all end up six feet under. do not fuss about this issue too much instead focus on your spiritual side.
