Do you like opera?

Are there any opera lovers on MyLot? If so, which composers and/or performers do you appreciate the most? Personally I am a lover of Puccini and therefore prefer the artists who are suited to this type of music, such as Plácido Domingo or Jussi Bjorling. Nevertheless I do enjoy a wide variety that encompasses such composers as Tchaikovsky, Saint Saens and many more.

Not too often maybe but I go to the opera at least once a year. Went to one a few weeks ago but can't remember the English name of it.

I rarely use the english names anyway. Nice to know that someone here at Mylot appreciates quality music.

Ok so I'll give you the Icelandic name then lol. The last opera I saw was "Brottnámið úr kvennabúrinu" or "Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail, W.A. Mozart.

That would be The Abduction fron the Seraglio, which is an opera that I have not listened to. Mozart is not really my type of music.

I've never had the opportunity to go to an opera. They don't do opera anywhere in my state that I'm aware of. I do like the rich voices of opera tenors I've heard, though. My dad used to be a huge fan of Pavarotti.

Pavarotti certainly has a good voice, but I prefer the richer timbres of such tenors as Plácido Domingo or Jussi Bjorling.

Domingo and Pavarotti were very popular in my home when I was growing up. My parents saw them both life and were very impressed. I think Domingo is a better singer but there is something about Pavarotti that I can't explain, comfortable maybe.

Sbeauty I don't know how far from Indianola you are but check out www.dmno.com, the Des Moines Metro Opera. They seem to have a good selection for next year.

I love operas. When I was in Bangkok, I joined an opera choir and every year we perform Handel's Messiah to welcome the Christmas season. Also last year, October 2007, I had the privilege to sing Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 and it was very majestic. I like both operas equally and I hope I can sing other composers' masterpiece as well.

I do not tend to listen to either Beethoven or Handel as a rule, although I do realise and appreciate the quality of their compositions.

Oh that sad if you don't like them. I do wish I had more access to other operas. But soon I will, I hope.

I love Opera. I bought a couple of Opera Cds and I put them on my hard drive in the Flac format so I can listen to them anytime I want. I do not have a favorite opera singer, but I prefer tenors and sopranos, and I like Italian operas, the best. I do love Puccini, Verdi, and Bizet the best, because they are the ones I know the best. As for artists, my favorites are Placido Domingo, Renee Fleming, Pavarotti, and Renata Tebaldi.

no, we don't lie this long hair music. our music has been in the modern rock and roll and country western genre. long hair music is good in the background of movies or in the elevator music but most people i know don't even know Puccini but that is show business

Yes, the Ride of the valkyre was very popular for that reason and is often shown in use in films about Vietnam.
