Is Death the beginning or the end of life?

Yesterday I was watching a wild life documentary and I was intrigued by life in the animal kingdom and this promted me to think allowed-I saw crocs munch off other creatures and the more these creatures die, the healthier and more productive those eating them looked. It seemed to me, that death sometimes give forth life, or am I wrong? Is death the beginning or the end of life?
