I have been living here for a while now and find the place very nice and quiet. No noisy neighbors. Lots of schools around. I was telling my wife, with all the school facilities around my neighborhood, we do not need to shift home for a good 16 years after having a kid (if we decide to get one) cos we have schools from nursery all the way to high school here. If the government decides to build a college and a tertiary education center here, we would be set for life here ;) heh heh... anyone else living here?

hehehe i'm staying at sengkang. just shifted here less than a month. find that this place is really peaceful. the only fault i can find is a big one to me. the lack of wet markets and food outlets. i'm a foodie so either i'll cook or i'll eat in town before heading back to Sengkang

you are not alone brother! We are all feeling it. Especially if you have uprooted yourself from your parents home that is in a old and establish town like Serangoon, Hougang, Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh, Tampines... etc etc Worst part of it is, our MPs are happy that they provided one coffee shop for every XXX hundred of people. Sheez! Do they even eat at the coffeeshops that they provided? and the market... Oh, dun get me started. There is one stall for every kind of needs. That is it! With the population that Seng Kang and Punggol combine, I am sure a center bigger than Ang Mo Kio can easily be sustained!

guess i got it worse coz i shifted from chinatown. the supposed 'food haven' where you can find cuisines of all nationalities within walking distance. i'm quite used to having japanese, nepalese, italian, french, chinese, indian, malay, american food all downstairs. :( and i used to live upstairs one of the biggest wet market in singapore. where there are like twenty of each kind of stalls, not to mention the enormous food centre above it. but CNY is what kills my love for the love. season-parking holders don't dare to go out during the two weeks before. coz we are guaranteed to have NO parking when we come back. even with the warden standing next to the season-parking area, people just park. they'd rather pay the $70 than go find alternative parking. :( and the chaotic traffic i face everyday when i'm going home is enough to turn me off.

wow... appreciate it... your first post and it is my thread that gets it. Heh heh... West loop getting the second direction is very unlikely cos the Cheng Lim stretch is still not very populated yet. But I am also looking forward to the new sports center, especially the pool! Everytime I take the LRT and it passes by the new sports center, I see lots of changes. They are also building some sort of bridge behind the center, over the river. Any idea if it is a new road? or just a link to be use exclusively by the sports center?

if that is all true, then it would really be worth looking forward to. With the crappy planning by the estate architect so far, I not putting too much hope in his works. As long as they put up more amenities other than building more schools, I would be very happy liow. We are seriously lacking ATMs, Markets, coffeeshops...

Yeah, i know, wishful thinking for early operations for the west loop. haha. Sports center is looking good these days. DOn't know anything about the bridge or link but it'll be unusual to open another road unless direct link to the highway. maybe a big car park. A hawker center for after-sports cravings. Ps. The site page loading takes quite awhile. Not really smooth. Want to start a rant thread haha

Hello there. I do not live in Seng Kang. But I do live near to there. I find Seng Kang too quiet and inconvenient. That's my personal opinion. I guess if you drive, everywhere is the same. For my case, I only study near my home when i was in Primary school. After primary school, I began to study further and further away from home. There's a JC very near my place. However, I chose to study in dover which is very far away. No regrets though. My point is it really does not matter whether there will be a college or tertiary education center near your place. Ultimately, it's your kid's choice where he/she wants to study. But if the government really builds a college or tertiary center in SK, what it means is SK will be busting with more people in the future.

Hi Poohgal, you are right in that it doesn't really matter whether there is a tertiary institute in SK or not. But imagine, if there is, there is an additional choice. Heh heh... Near to Seng Kang? Where you live? Punggol? Hougang? Rite now, it is not as quiet as, say, 5 years ago. As more people shift in, combine with the two new BTO that is to be completed in 08 at Fernvale, it is going to be a really crowded place. Even today, going to Compass Point, can be a real pain sometimes. It is so crowded, it is almost like going to Takashimaya (on a smaller scale in terms of building). I really hope Compass Point will go towards what Junction 8, Northpoint is doing... expand to a slightly bigger complex so that shopping will be more pleasant. :p Best if they can include a small cineplex as well :p

Hi Applefreak, you are right! Taking the NEL to go to town is a breeze as compared to when I was staying with my mum. Where I am staying, I have easy access to town within 40 mins of leaving my home. The best part of it is, it goes to Dhoby Gauht... where Plaza Singapura is... Late nite movies is no longer an issue of trying to find a cab. People have the perception that SK is very ulu cos it has little amenities as compared to Hougang, Ang Mo Kio or Toa Payoh. But if you look hard enough, it is actually very convinient. If one is driving, in less than 10 mins, one can turn into the SLE and be connected to almost all the different expressways. For those who are taking trains, easy transfer in town... direct from LRT all the way to town. Other than the lack of amenities like a bigger market, more coffeeshops and eateries, there is nothing much one can gripe about when staying in SK. ;)

personally, i find that SK is more convenient for pple who takes the NEL. the driving condition to and fro can only be described as madness. it takes me less time travelling by NEL compared to driving. for NEL, it takes 30min to reach SK from my workplace but an hour by the expressway. :( that is when we travel by the CTE during the ERP hours which is supposed to ease traffic. upper serangoon road is worse because of all the traffic lights and road hoggers.
