What are your top 5 recommended movies? Why do you like them? Mine would be Stephen King's The Stand, Arsenic and Old Lace, Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride and Little Shop of Horrors. I love The Stand b/c it deals with the whole what if question and shows how ppl can pull together for the greater good. I really like Arsenic and Old Lace b/c it's like stepping back in a time capsule not to mention that Cary Grant is in it and I like him. Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride are two of my favorites b/c I love the fact that the entire movies were done with clay...I think Tim Burton did an awesome job on them. Lastly Little Shop of Horrors is great...the music, the comedy and the overall fun of it. So, what are yours? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

" Suddenly Seymour..." Oh I'm sorry , I love Little Shop Of Horrors too. There are so many films that I could recommend. It all depends on the person's likes and dislikes so I tell you the top film from the top 5 genes. For Comedy,I like History of the World Part 1.it is a crazy tour of history.Mel Brooks is crazy. For Drama, Casablanca. It is a classic with a strong cast and a great story. For a musical, American in Paris. Gene Kelly is wonderful and you can't go wrong with music by Goergr Gershwin. For Romance, not a romantic comedy but straight romance, The Bridges Of Madison County. It has a love story that grabs onto you and won't let you go.And last but not least a Suspense/Mystery I have a tie, Usual Suspects and The Departed. They both have great casts and gripping storylines and surprising endings.

I agree with you about the "Little Shop of Horrors." Was a cute movie. "Dirty Dancing" is one of my all time favorites. Patrick Swayze is just wonderful in that movie with all his terrific dance moves. Another good movie I recently watched was "Derailed." The acting by Jennifer Aniston was great.

My top five movies are mostly romances. I would choose Somewhere In Time, The Notebook, Gone With The Wind, Casablanca, and Bridges of Madison County. The reason I like them is because they are all stories of an enduring love. No matter what hardships they face, or what keeps them apart, the one thing that stays constant is LOVE. I always dreamed of finding a love like that, and now I have it,which makes the movies mean even more to me.

Well, I've seen The Others and that is a good one. I do like those kind of movies that have the twist at the end. Of course I've seen Poltergist and love every one of them. And Jaws I've seen...though it's been ages. I've never seen the others but will definately have to look into them. Thanks for responding!! **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I too enjoyed Arsenic and Old Lace. I think people miss a lot of good movies when they are put off by the year the movies were made. These are a list of my top 5 recommended movies to watch: 1. Last of the Mohicans - It starred Daniel Day-Lewis. It was a powerful movie, even the subplots. The movie was based during the Revolutionary War. 2. While You Were Sleeping: Sandra Bullock's best romantic comedy of all time. it's laugh out loud funny, but never mushy. 3. The Matrix - I imagine a lot of people have seen this movie which starred Keanu Reeves. I liked it because it was a new concept, and I really made the connection of the symbolism in the movie to every day life, which made it more relevant to me. 4. Meet Me in St. Louis - One of Judy Garland's best movies, and one she made with one of the men she married, Vincente Minelli. Sure it is a musical, but have you ever danced the Smoochie woochie? 5. 10 Things I Hate About You - Several years before Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles were stars, they were in this movie that was way more than a teenage movie. Apparently it was a modern take on 'Taming of the Shrew', but I don't care what it was based on, I loved it.

I loved "The Last of The Mohicans" too! My best friend at the time is the one who got me to watch it with him. It was his favorite movie and he asked me to go to his house and watch it with him so I did and it was awesome. Of course even though he was just my best friend at the time I also had a huge crush on him so I followed him anywhere, lol. I think I was about 14 or 15 at the time. I also loved "Ten Things I Hate About You" That was a great movie and I could watch it again. I haven't seen the "Last of The Mohicans" in such a long time. I'm going to have to rent the DVD! :)

Meet me in St. Louis is another one of my favorites. I especially loved the scene where she sings "Have Yourself a Merry Christmas." The little sister, Tootie, was also a great character. Imagine! Having a doll graveyard in your back yard. I also like 10 Things I Hate About You. There was so much in it that was funny. Didn't know it was based on Taming of the Shrew.

Oh dear I am spoilt for choice. Here goes .... 1. The Crow. Brandon Lee's last film and it has a great soundtrack too 2. Pirates of the Caribbean. Johnny Depp at his brilliant best, hilarious film full of great one-liners and running gags. 3. Nightmare before Christmas. I love Tim Burton films and this one, together with The corpse Bride, is definitely some of his best work. 4. The Rocky Horror Show. Richard O'Brien, Meatloaf, great music, a wonderful laugh 5. Lord of the Rings. What can I say.

I always have considered Dirty Dancing my favorite movie simply because I love the soundtrack and the dancing is spectacular. I think it takes me back to the days of the old musicals that I really love. Both The Stand and The Shining are favorites because I love Stephen King and have always been a huge fan. I am also crazy about The Highlander. I loved the TV series as well. Lastly, Home Alone was pure genius. I found MacCauley Culkin to be ideal for the role and he really carried the movie.

I loved Little Shop of Horrors and Nightmare Before Christmas is my all time favorite, although I must say Corpse Bride was not nearly as good. My other favorites include Man of La Mancha, South Pacific, and Gone with the Wind, but the latter two are a toss up with The Importance of Being Ernest and A Funny Thing Happened to Me on the Way to the Forum jockeying for position. It is really hard to choose just 5 favorites as there are so many great old-time movies.

Let's see... for me, it would be: Godfather Trilogy -- it's just too good for people not to see it. Even the 3rd, which some people regard as mediocre is a very good story and is beautifully done (albeit not as beautiful as the first two). Mr. Holland's Opus -- people seem to be losing touch with how important music, theater and art education are. This movie shows perfectly how much they can touch/impact a persons life. (original) Star Wars Trilogy -- It's just a great trilogy that had a huge impact on American Pop Culture. Wit -- This was based on a play by Maggie Edson, and it's just a great film about a woman enduring aggressive treatment for ovarian cancer. It's not graphic or depressing. It's really well done. Fried Green Tomatoes -- A great story about the enduring power of friendship.

Oh, this is soooo hard!.....I'll give you five but could easily give you many more. I didn't put in my favorite Spooky one's.....maybe I'll come back and sneak them in. Here goes: 1. Wuthering Heights - B&W - 1951 2. A Christmas Carol - B&W - 1951 with Alastair Sims, love it! I watch this every Christmas, it's tradition, lol! 3. Stand By Me - 1986 - River Phoenix, Cory Feldman 4. Fried Green Tomatoes - 1991 - At The Whistle Stop Cafe 5. Now & Then - 1995 - Demi Moore, Rose O'Donnell, Melanie Griffith 6. Horse Whisperer - 1998 - Robert Redford...fascinating Sorry, I had to add the last one, haha.....that was so hard!

My favorites are: 1. It's A Wonderful Life Because it's a wonderful movie that reminds one of the values of family and friendship as well as how one person can affect the lives of so many others. I'm also a giant fan of Jimmy Stewart. 2. Gone With the Wind Because it's a great epic with great actors. The characters are memorable as well as many of their lines. 3. Benny and Joon Because it's one of Johnny Depp's most underrated movies. The three main characters, Benny, Joon, and Sam were three dimensional. The music is good and the stunt scenes in which Depp performs are masterful. The movie is both a comedy and a tender love story. 4. The Wizard of Oz It's a timeless classic. One of Judy Garland's best. I love the music. The characters are lovable. The film has so many urban legends associated with it that it makes it fun to watch. 5. 13 Going on 30 It's a fun romantic comedy. The soundtrack is good. Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo have great chemistry in the movie. Those are my picks.

ok this is really hard because I could easily do top 5 in each genre but not only top 5! Oh well I will try, maybe I will break it down to the top movie in each genre to make it easier. by the way I am a huge fan of Cary Grants, you should read his bio very interesting. Horror: "The Exorcist" hands down Comedy: Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn's "Bringing up Baby", hard to pick just one here Drama: "The Greatest Show on Earth" or "Gone with the Wind", hmm this is a hard one to pick just one as well! Musical: "West Side Story" or "Labyrinth" :) I know labyrinth isn't really a musical but I had to stick it in some where! Thriller: "Joy Ride" was pretty good! "Wait until Dark" if you like classics Ahh! This is really hard, I can't bring myself to cut the list to just five. And I have so much more to recommend! lol. Good question, now if you had asked the top five worst movies of all time, that might of been a little easier!!
