I dont know whether I agree or disagree with there being a black history month I will say this I do understand that african americans went through a lot in the old days but I dont understand why a whole month should be devoted to their history for the fact that other cultures dont have their own month do you see what I am trying to say?

That's a tough one! I TOTALLY agree that we need to remember all the contributions they've made on an equal level as we remember all the contributions of all the other Americans in history. I also agree that young black Americans need to know more about their "culture's" history rather than the sterotypes of gangs and what-not. The only thing I worry about is that it is creating that fine and strange line between equal treatment and special treatment. If "white" people wanted a month to celebrate being white,we'd all be called racists and supremecists. Sure part of our white population made a huge mistake by having slavery BUT we didn't ALL do it. Why can't we celebrate all the hard working, honest, and good white people in the past? Because we aren't allowed to be proud of our heretage anymore. Why can't we just have an equal opportunity American Heretage month? Because some one some where would get offended if white people had one extra minute devoted to them.

I'm of the opinion that there should be, as I think anything which increases good will, understanding and respect is a good thing..

America already has a Black History Month, and we should also have a White History Month, and a Red History Month, and a Yellow History Month, and we can show movies and do "Do you know that?" infomercials on Tv. But you see that would be racism. It is okay to call African=Americans, black, but not okay to refer to Chinese and Japanese as yellow and I am sure the Native population in North and South America do not like to be called red. As for the whites, well there are people in Iran who are considered of the same ethnic group, and there are those who are inbetween. We could then have a brown history month, or maybe a light brown history mouth or a slightly yellow mostly white with a little brown and black mixture history month and what about the Aborigines, they are brown skinned and dark skinned but they are not Negroes, so this color history thing does not work. We have to be fair to all, and not just honor one group. People should be praised for their accomplishments not for the color of their skin.

Right on, that is exactly what i'm saying. And do you hear any race other then black bitc*ing about racism? I mean like it doesn't effect us all, no matter what color we are. I grew up in the getto and I'm white. I was constantly stared at by Gd's and Latin Kings. Looks of hate because I was white. And that is just one of many examples of racism that goes un-told because no one cares if your not black. Because equality is how it is, there shouldn't be one single race that gets the right to have a history month because there are only 12 months to a year and there are more then 12 races so what makes the black race so special? Oh, slavery,...hold up, didn't that happen to more then one race? If not slavery, some type of oppression or genocide. Why isn't my hand out, why aren't I complaining about racism, after all, it does effect us all.
To some our view may seem racist, but I believe its realistic and needs to be pointed out. Where's my races month? Wouldn't it awful if we all sounded like that? Hi five to the blacks to jump on the train first and lock in their position. We're all equal.

Yes , there should be a Black History month. The bad thing is that most Americans don't study or care about history. So there is a Black History Month and most don't know when it is.
