Last night my family and I went out to a Japanese restaurant for my birthday. The food was delicious but I couldn't believe what my 11 year old cousin was eating! First he ate Octopus balls which weren't too bad but then he ordered raw beef! It was odd to watch him eat it but he loved it! My uncle tasted a little bit and said it was quite nice-just like ham. I was going to have a taste but I wasn't brave enough. I know chinese restaurants are popular but there don't seem to be as many Japanese restaurants around. How many of you have eaten at one? ANd have you ever had the raw beef? :-/

I like beef very rare..we call it steak tartare...but these days one has to be careful about microorganisms. Back on the farm we used to eat raw eggs, too. They were delicious stirred up in milk with a little honey and vanilla...the original eggnog. But these eggs came from our own healthy chickens, which they now call free-range and I would have difficulty making myself eat a raw egg from the supermarket today.
I love Japanese food, especially buckwheat noodles (soba) and eel and all that good stuff. I like Korean and Chinese food too. Those tasty sweet-potato noodles are hard to find around here. When we travel to the San Francisco Bay Area I buy big bags of them dried and bring them back for the winter.

I LOVE Japanese food. It's my absolute favourite food in the whole world. I love sushi and udon and seaweed and gyudon and ramen(real Japanese ramen, not top ramen). I'd eat it everyday if I could. I have a ton of great restaurants where I live but it's really expencive so I can't go too often.
Thankfully, I'm moving to Japan in 2009 so I won't have much to worry about lol.

I'm not a big Oriental food eater, but we do have a few really good Japanese restaurants in North Carolina. I've never had octopus balls or raw beef, and I probably never will honestly. I'm not very brave when it comes to trying new foods, especially exotic or foreign foods. ha ha. I can't believe an 11 year old was eating that, but that's good. At least he will try new things. By the way, Happy Belated Birthday.:)

Octopus balls you say? EEEEEWWWW!! LOL No thanks! LOL Raw meat? Heck no too! LOL That's too dangerous to even consider trying. I like my health too much besides having enough trouble with it as it is so nope, not taking any chances with that one.

Happy Birthday :)
I've never eaten at a Japanese restaurant and don't plan to either. I don't like Chinese food or the idea of eating raw food. Yuck on the balls too! I realize that all that stuff might actually taste good but it sounds disgusting!
Glad you had a great time at your dinner though :)

I have only been to a Japanese Resturant once in my life. I found it fairly expensive. Once I left out choosing all the strange foods, I quite enjoyed some of the dishes, especially chicken ones. That was a long time ago.
But I admit to not having ever wanted to go back to trying Japanese food. Fairly recently I tried Sushi. I nearly vomited, & had to go outside & get rid of it. This put me off wanting to try Japanesee food ever again.
I guess I am being narrow minded. I don't want to try any seaford at all, but if there is any Japanese food that is NOT seaford, please tell me about it.

Japanese food is one of my favorite cuisines. I love california maki and those raw beef and tuna dipped in wasabi. I also adore their miso soup. Good thing there are Japanese fare in fast food I can always have a feast without spending too much than going to Japanese fine dining restaurants.

In the town that I work in there's about 6 Chinese/Japanese/Sushi restaurants and like 3 Indian restaurants within a 5 block radius. It's kinda ridiculous.
I'm not too into seafood. I like the standards, Crab and Shrimp. Lobster is alright. But when it comes to fish I'm not a fan. I'm not into Raw foods either, unless it's veggies. But that's just me. So I don't go to those restaurants all too often. But Japanese places have really awesome ice cream. it tastes like a little donut!

I am very fond of Japanese food... there is a freshness and a delicacy about it that you can find in no other cuisine. I love soba with hot broth and raw veggies.
The health codes for serving raw foods are very strict, so I wouldn't worry too much about the beef. It is, indeed, very good. Since most methods of cooking beef add carcinogens, eating it raw under strict regulation may be a healthier way! I like raw beef with soy... the salt is a natural antibacterial.
