What do you like the most: reading to yourself, being read to, or books on tape?

I like all three. Sometimes I like to hear a dramatic reading by someone else to see their interpretation of the same passage(s). Sometimes I like to hear a book while I'm driving on tape. But most of the time, I like to read it myself so I can concentrate on really getting the meaning out of it. That way I can reread and imagine some passages different ways. Try them out in my mind, so to speak. Which do you like best and why?

I like reading to myself. I tend to concentrate more when I read. I think the only time that I can get my mind to stay on one topic is by reading.
After getting an ipod, I learned to enjoy listening to audiobooks when I'm about to sleep. It's different from reading, I can still concentrate, but I doze off after the first hour. LOL

An hour is a long time to listen. This is for people for reading to the self, but only the first one besides me to also try audiobooks. Thank you for your perspective. Take care

If books on tape gets a person sleepy, then the person had better not drive and listen to them. I try to have exciting ones for drives. Take care

I enjoy reading and getting lost in a book in a comfy chair during a thunderstorm or snowstorm the most! I don't get that opportunity all that often though, so I also enjoy audio books. I travel all the time with my job, so audio books have become my passion to keep me entertained on the long drives! It's easy to get lost in a story that way also and before you know it, you are at your destination! I dream of a day when cars can be programmed with the directions to just "take" you where you need to go on their own and you can just sit back in a nice comfy seat and read the entire way, or sleep! lol

Yes, those are some of my favorite times to read. I also like to read when my mind has too many worries and the book relaxes me and takes my mind off my worries and onto a story. Take care

I read to myself. I don't enjoy being read to, 'cause I don't understand sometimes. And I don't have books on tape, I haven't tried that one yet. Though I'm not sure if I'd enjoy it either. I like reading to myself, because I'd get to understand it, reread it if I have to. I can go at my own pace, whatever's comfortable for me.

Yes, sometimes rereading is very important. Since I'm an auditory learner, even when I read, I hear the words in my head. So either way, I still am listening whether to myself or to someone else. I can also rewind the books on tape just like you reread. But yes, the reader on the tape goes at his or her pace.

I am like you. I love to read but also love books on tape. Some people I cannot listen to on tape without falling asleep because of the soft low calm voices. Some people I listen to over and over. I love to be read to and always read before I go to sleep. Books are great no matter how you read them.

Reading myself, for sure. Hun read to me a bit in the hospital, but people put their own inflection on, and it comes out differently than I would have 'heard' it. It was nice though... TV got boring too quickly!

Yes, people do put their own "spin"on it, but when you're tired, not well, and tv gets boring. . ..

I like to read to myself the best. I find it relaxing. I find that if other people are reading to me or I'm listening to a book on tape I drift off more and daydream. I focus better reading for myself and find it more enjoyable all around.

Yes, I find it relaxing, too. Most people do tend to drift off after awhile, but I think it would be good for inproving listening skills. Take care.

I enjoy all three. Books on tape are my favorite for long drives and cleaning house. But my all time favorite is to have my 8 yr old read her book to me.

I enjoy reading alone. Especially when it's quiet all around you, and you can get lost in a good book. When that happens I usualy end up finishing it that evening or early morning however you want to look at it, maybe around 2:00 or 3:00 a.m., but if the book is that good it is always worth it.
