My neigbours have children about the same age of 3 years, the girl is more talkative and appear to grasps words faster than the boy. She is also more couteous, can wave to people and welcomes them too. The boy has very words and looks far behind the girl, is this a gender thing or it is acase of individual difference? Am concerned because I have seen similar scenarios else where, now Do girls develop faster mentally than boys?

I do have similar experience with my three year old daughter. If I compare her with her youngest brother, she started to talk quicker than her brother, and started to walk also quicker age compare to the brother. A daughter of my cousin also have same thing. But I don't know if there is scientific thing that can say about this behavior. I'm not a doctor just a mother. :)

Hello academic. You know, girls are more developed in language development. It is very natural for baby girls to grasp words faster than baby boys as I have seen many cases like this, but it doesn't mean that baby boys are less clever than baby girls. But I have to say that not all baby boys are less developed in language learning, some can even grasp words much faster than the girls of the same age. Thanks for your interesting discussion, academic friend. (I am afraid I have to say good night to you now as it is 23:25 here.)

hi academic2,
Sometimes, girls are more mature than boys. In nature girls are more vocal than boys, rather boys are silent type but not all.
it's me,
