Is downloading media through P2P software really wrong? What do you think?

Okay. This may seem like a random discussion but I'm really curious to hear your opinions about this. Personally, I don't think it's wrong as people are only sharing their media through such programs...just as friends would share their CDs and etc.

It really depends on what your perspective regarding the issue is.
For example, Michael Moore said it was great teens are downloading his documentaries because it raised awareness of the issues he talked about. Some classical musicians encourage downloading their performances and recordings, in hope that these downloads will result in live performance attendance.
On the other hand, it's a concept of stealing and denying the recording artists their money.

True, the perspective matters, but do you think that it should be made illegal because it's known to be a concept of stealing - but can be proven to be sharing?
Besides, most of the artists just want to be heard and simply earn from selling merchandise and doing tours and concerts.
If it is illegal to download, then why should the public suffer instead of the software programmers that created such things :S?!
