which operating system you like now (like doesn't mean you are using it) and why?
I prefer linux because :
1. I have to connect to some ftp servers, in linux, I can use ftpfs or sshd, so I can treat remote files in ftp as local files
2. I can allocate memory as a folder, so I can put files that have to be accessed fast in the folder.
3. I think its GUI is much better that Windows

I use Linux, because it's one of the best platforms for development (I also use it my desktop).
There are lots of great softwares to choose, some of them that aren't available in some operational systems. The flexibility of the shell is factor that helps someone that is comfortable with it.
Also, it's also about freedom. You can install what you want and make the system work the way you want it to.
