I haven't had the surgery, but I've talked to some people who have, and they told me that getting insurance approval is difficult. You pretty much have to prove (have your doctor document) that you've tried just about every other method of weight loss out there and that it didn't work for you. There are a number of weight loss forums out there, and they could probably tell you more about what's necessary to get approval. But with the US health care system, at the end of the day, it pretty much comes down to what some guy in a cubicle thinks is best for you. Best of luck to you with your endeavor.

Thanks for the well wishes. The center I am going to has warned me that this will be a long process. One of the reasons I went with this place was that they have one person who deals with only insurance and they do only weight loss surgeries. They also have a dietitian, psychologist, support group, patient liaison, and dedicated surgeon. I like knowing that they are pros at this.
