Do you have a dream?

I have a dream...
That one day I will study for 5 years to complete my counselling qualifications. I am due to start an "introduction to counselling" course in Feb08, followed by the "certificate" and ending with the diploma.
I have always liked the idea of helping people in such a simple way as talking, and was a Counsellor at my high school. It was only simple discussions that were had (girls being bullied by their friends etc) but every issue were important for these individuals to discuss. It felt amazing to have someone smile at you which told you you were helping them, and even if I couldn't make them feel better, at least their negative energy had been released and they found an older girl who they could call a friend.
Anyway, after years of wondering what I am going to do with my life, I have explored the path and decided to act on this.
What does everyone else want to do?

I have decided to go into counseling too. Like yourself, I have a looooong way to go! But one day, I'll get there. What area of counseling do you want to go into?

I'm not sure on that one yet. I'm thinking I'd like to deal with addicts or something like that but I think it will all become more apparent when I start to have my own counselling, as they do that with the certificate and diploma i think. So I just want to get that far and hope that something has happened to make me realise that's where I want to branch off to. How about you?

I am not sure. I would like to work with children or adolescents; however, I have been doing research on anxiety disorders and it seems really interesting. I haven't gotten too far to get any field experience yet so I am keeping an open mind.

Yeah I do think that children are very interesting and really, if we all started trying to help the children in the world, I think the world would be a much better place in 15 years time. I have thought about career coaching as well (like helping people with CV's and guiding people on what courses to take relevant to the line of work they wish to go into) so maybe that could be something i'd incorporate later on. I'd love to go to my old school one day and tell them I'm a fully trained counsellor and career advisor and seeing if I could practise both. That'd be good. thanks for your comments coffeequeen, good to hear of someone with similar goals x

No, I never dreamed to study, although I'm in college now. But I have started and I must finished.
