This Has Got To Be The Wierdest "Fall" I've Ever Remember

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this, but for fall, it sure doesn't feel like fall ro me. Usually by now, there is a real feel of chilliness in the air. The kind of weather that requires a light jacket...but here I am here in the Big Apple, and I'm still wearing shorts, a sleeveless top and my sandals...I don't EVER remember being so warm this long.
I remember this, as we have a real "lovely" landlord, and he adamantly has his rule that we can't get heat until October 15th or later, yet, and usually by this time it's so chilly in the apartment it feels like a barn, and I have to drag out my heavy blankets to kept warm at night...not so now. I still have my fans blowing to keep cool. So what gives with this weird weather...The leaves haven't even changed into spectacular colors yet.
Is anyone else experiencing a warmer than usual fall season? And I just bet, that one day it'll be in the 80s like it has been, and next we'll probably get snow! LOL

Yeah, I'm getting a little tired of these mid-80's temps. I'm curious to see what Halloween is going to be like. I do love the four seasons, but this year Summer is testing my patience...I want Fall, and those mid-70 temps..I want to start wearing my nice sweaters or little Fall jackets. And my jeans. And I know my job will be easier when it cools down. This humidity is nasty. But you're bet is right on....it'll probably get cold suddenly and unexpectedly. Shall we blame it all on global warming? Why not. Just got to roll with it I guess.

Hi Pye,
Yeah I live in Southern Illinois and its still in the 90's here. I think it was today, lol I dont know. I havent left the house yet!
Its so hot here that I had to turn my air back on. We have had 2 weeks of cool weather, got as low as 44 at night, and then we had 2 weeks of hot weather, back into the late 70s at night, then a week and a half of cool again, now its hot again and Ive turned the air back on as of Thursday afternoon.
Im not sure what is going on. But yes I remember last year this time it was rainy and cool. And I think toward the end of Oct last yr we had the heat on.
So its here in the Mid West too, not sure why. Our leaves have changed a wee bit but like you said they are not as bright or as many trees as it should be.

Yeah Im ready for some winter weather though, its been a really hot summer this time around.
I would like one whole month, or more, that I dont have to run my AC or my heat. I have a feeling its going to go from one extreme to the next and I will be forced to turn my heat on before Im ready to! lol

Well I'm only a few hours west of you so it's pretty much the same here. Today was a little cooler, but not fall cool, because of some cloud cover and rain last night. I keep waiting for that crisp feeling in the air but it's still just sticky summer air. A few trees have started changing but we definitely don't have hillsides blazing with color yet. I will be so happy when/if we get fall weather. I don't care for summer or winter so I look forward to fall all year.

We are experiencing the same thing in the south. It still feels like summer. It is in the lower 90's down here. And the weatherman forecasted a cold front 3 days ago, but the weather had only dropped down to about 83 degrees. I love the fall weather and I can't wait until it gets here.

It's much the same in England, my friend. Although it's chilly at night and misty and dewy early in the morning, the sun has been shining all day, and gives off quite a bit of heat. I'm able to go out in just a short-sleeved shirt, but I do need a jacket in the evening once the Sun has gone down.
As for the colours, they're changing here. The Schumack in the garden is getting redder by the day, and most of the garden is in Autumn stages. But, I had noticed that there are still some roses in bloom, which is quite uncharacteristic.
Brightest Blessings, my friend.

Here's a pic of the remaining roses in my garden, which I took today, 9th October. Unfortunately at 3.15 p.m. it has been raining heavily all day, and a lot of the flowers have been knocked off, but there are some hanging on. lol.
It's a bit difficult to see this size, but if you enlarge it, you'll see them more clearly. :) The raindrops are quite evident too. ha ha ha

Roses in bloom??? Now?? Roses usually bloom around June and die out rather fast...that's a beautiful photo--never seen a plant like that before...is it native only to England??

Yeah we're having the same type of weather here in KY.
It's just nuts to be wearing shorts in October!!
Our leaves are starting to turn but nothing like they should be.
It was a record of 93 degrees here today and it's suppose to that tomorrow too. By Wednesday though it's suppose to be in the 70's...thankfully! THAT'S my kind of weather.

I am seething with jealousy. Up here in Winnipeg, Manitoba it is the real thing. I wore a light t-shirt, then changed to my regular acyllic fall and winter sweater because it was too cool. When I got home, my husband had changed the thermostat for cold weather, and turned it up to 25, so now I was too hot.
Yet outside most of the leaves have fallen. We went through the States as far south as West Virginia and I felt like it was summer and I did not bring along any summer clothes. I did not know it was unusual, I thought it was normal for it to be quite warm.

I am not sure if it can be classified as weird since it generally rains here 9 to 10 months out of the year. I think we got spoiled last fall with the weather staying warm and dry until November. It's been raining here for a couple weeks and it has been rather chilly. Enough to have a fire everyday.

Same thing here in Hamilton...
As for the weirdest fall, I don't know. I remember warm Hallowe'ens as a child. Mind you, where I lived as a teenager, it would usually snow once before Hallowe'en, then turn warm again, or at least warmer than when it snowed.

I also meant to ask, do you not have something like a landlord-tenant act or rental tribunal in NY? Here in Ontario, I believe landlords have to provide heat by September 1st. (At least, that's what I remember someone telling me...)

No my landlord is a real a$$hole...LOL..technically speaking no matter WHAT time of the year, the law actually states one has to have heat..even if it's a cold spell in August..but our landlord sticks to his own rules

Many parts of the country are benefitting from this weather boon, pyewacket, but it is due to come to an end in my area in the next few days. We have been warned to haul out the warm blankets and heavy jackets because colder weather is on the way. We have had a few really cool days and then it warmed up again. I am eager for the cool weather right now, but I'm sure that I will have had enough by January, lol. The nice weather has been a benefit for those who struggle to pay their heating bills. They were given a reprieve.

You're right worldwise..I can see your viewpoint of how an unusually warm fall to help those with paying heating costs..it has held it off for awhile..I guess better a warm fall, than an early frost creating the need for heating bills sooner than usual

Yes, it's wierd, but I've been loving it. I love 80 degree temps. I'm hoping that we won't get a big bunch of ice and snow this winter. I hate driving in it, and I hate the thought of my outside dogs having to be in it. I fix them up pretty warm, but still I hate the cold weather, and I say the same thing, every winter, and that's I wish I hadn't lived to see another winter. If I could just have the weather we get from April through the start of October, I'd be fine. Any weather later on, is usually too much for me.

I don't mind the winter actually, but I can understand your concern about keeping your outside dogs warm...my pet rescuer has this large garage set up for her cats and she tells me in the winter time up where she is, she pays a $300 per month heating bill just to keep them warm..

I had a new barn built for my outside cats, but as slow as my husband is, I'll be lucky to have the electric in by December. If only I knew how to do it, myself.

Hi Pye, hmmm, no, as you know I am not in the US and here the fall isn't come totally as yet, but i do feel the chill in the air and especially at night.
The summer wasn't a real summer either, and it sucked big time, but for the rest the change of climate has been felt and a lot. Darn, I really wish there is again a real winter and a real summer, insteaed of living who;le year with only 2 seasons - autumn and spring - as I HATE IT ;/
BTW, this is my post 1000 :)

Hey congrats on the 1000 post... :) Getting to be an old timer here, right? LOL
We seem to have only two seasons too nowadays, no real spring or fall..one day it's wind chill factors and winter like, the next summer...then the opposite is true, no real fall either...just goes right into winter it seems after a summer

Yes, it is. Today it is 96 degrees. It is supposed to cool down tomorrow. It is strange to stay warm so long. We had a halloween party at the campground this past weekend and it was 90 degrees. I am glad it was nice, but it sure was warm. It probably will do as you said, be warm one day and snow the next.

I had my daughter in October and I always get that feeling around October that reminds me of her birth, but not this year.
It is usually bright, sunny but with a real bite in the air. However, like you say, this year we are wearing our summer clothes and the weather is so mild.
Our poor animals are all confused and they are hibernating later than usual. My sister tortoise is totally confused and is still out and about instead of getting ready for hibernation.
I do not like it and I hope the weather will sort itself out. We have had flash floods in the UK and I am sure we will see more freak weather. If this is global warming then we have to seriously look at what is going to happen to our planet in the future.

Oh, yeah. This being Ohio here though we've had 80's down to 40's the next day. We get ice and grey skies, and then we get blue skies and humidity.
Nature's basically said, "Screw seasons, I'm doing whatever the heck I want" this year.
The trees are changing colors and dropping their leaves anyway. They don't care lol.
"Meh. Whatever, I'm going to sleep."

it is weird.i don't recall having the fan on in october much.it's almost like the northeast is starting to get a fourth month of warm now.
while i find it odd,i'm grateful because it's one less month of oil bills for me :)
it doesn't seem like it snows like it used to anymore either..
