oh... just got a car? First one?
I am also thinking but dunno what is required to go about getting a car.
Engine oil, use the medium grade one usually will do cos you cannot really keep the car for long... so no need to waste money on premium grades oils. There should be some recommendations that come with the manual... so you can try reading it for a start.
Other than the following expense to plan for, what else must I look out for ah?
1)Budget (monthly installments)
2)Car park fees
3)Insurance
4)Road Tax
5)Monthly/mileage maintenance (oil change)
6)Petrol

there is about all already. More important is suits your need and NOT WHAT YOU WAN and yet cannot afford. That why this round (2nd time) we purchase a Getz 1.4 Auto Gear and hatchback instead of a salon car.
Engine Oil .. medium grade ,... I kinda of consfuse by the 10W40 .. 5W30 grading code.. make me very ruan ..
some more 1st servicing coming soon. No idea which one is ideal for Get 1.4A Off Peak Car.

ha ha ha... no need to fret...
hmm... from what I remember when I was studying engines, the numbers just indicates the viscosity of the oil at different temperatures ranges.
SAE 40 is the common grade that is used in most engines in Singapore. W simply indicates the viscosity when testing under winter conditions.
The ones I used when I was learning to fix engines are SAE 40... no W as it is not necessary in our climate.
As different engines from different manufacturers may require different grades... it is better to check your manual to see what is the recommended range.
If not, then just let the mechanic recommend to you.

i got my manual with me now.. it says ..
Engine oil quality should meet th following Classification :
API SJ, SL or aBOVE
ILSAC GF-3 or ABOVE.
Recommended Oil
5W-20, 5W-30
20W-50
15W-40
10W-30
However, in Hyundai Getz User Manual, it stated that for good fuel economy, SAE5W-20 (5W-30), ILSAC GF-3 Engine oil is preferred regardless of regional option and engine variation ...
si be luan liao.
