I am sick of people treating animals like garbage - I just can't take it anymore

Ok -I'm sure lots of people will take issue with me here - but I frankly don't care, as I don't think 'll be around here much more the way things are. But I just had to say something - and that is that frankly I am sick, tired and angry with the attitudes of a lot of people here on myLot. Every day I read posts where people are treateng their poor animals (cats, dogs etc) like trash to be thrown out when they are bored with them. I'm not naming names - but in the last few days l've read a post from a man who had two cats and didn't like them so just took them and dumped them in a park...... then someone else who didn't like their cat going out and bringing dirt back into the house so just decided not to let in back in..... then another one who can't afford to get a female spayed.......... and another one where their cat "annoyed" them so they pulled it's ears to hurt it........ and another one who took in a kitten and then decided they didnt want it anymore, so dumped it in the woods at 4 weeks old - oh and took a photo of it first to put on mylot - that photo haunts me still - poor little soul. Oh and that's not forgetting the ones who cruelly "declaw" their cats to save their furniture..... the one who wanted to get rid of her cat because it's playing sometimes left scratches on her arm that didn't look pretty............. and the fool who said there was nothing wrong with what Michael Vick did because they are "only dogs".
And frankly I don't need to read this sh*t anymore. Everytime I read a post like this I cry - shedding tears of pure frustration and anger about stupid, illiterate, selfish people without a clue about the fear, pain, and terror they are putting other creatures through just for their "convenience". My partner tells me not to read here or post here anymore, because it distresses me so much.
So please people remember - cats, dogs etc are NOT toys or ornaments for your selfish pleasure only - they are living creatures who shed blood, and feel fear and pain just like humans do. So frahkly - if you can't accept that, and can't afford to give a pet the love and care it needs - then don't damn well have them!
If you can't afford to give it proper medical care when required, or have it spayed/neutered - then don't have it.
If you're not prepared to treat it as part of the family and love it accordingly - then don't have it.
If you can't feed it properly or exercise it properly - then don't have it.
And if one comes into your possession that you don't want - don't chuck it into the street like garbage -take it to a Vet, a Rescue Centre, a shelter or whatever.
I know I come from a different culutre from many people here - it is well kown that the English are a nation of animal lovers, and are kmown to give more money to animal charitiies than those for people, and I also know that things like Vetinerary care is ree for low-income people here. But still, wherever you come from there is NO EXCUSE for wanton, vicious cruelty. I am heartily sick of these mealy-mouthed fools who treat poor, defenceless pets like sh*t, and then say "well- they ae only animals........" It makes me mad.
Ok - thanks for letting me vent. I am disapearing from myLot for a while to cool down. Thanks.

Thank you! It actually made me feel better just to write it down! The thoughts have been boiling up inside me these past few days now - and just had to come out! Thanks for your support.

I agree with everything you just said. 'm tired of crying over the way that other people treat their animals. This is why I have so pets. I try to take in every homeless animal that I see, because I can't bear what might happen to them, if I don't. I've seen some of the same stuff you have on here, and it is extremely depressing. At the very least, I can tell them what I think of them, and you'd better believe me, if I could report them to the authorities, I'd do it, in a heartbeat. I hate cruel people, and I'd like to see them all get what they deserve. I believe in the end, they will get what they deserve, it just won't be soon enough to make me happy.

You and me both. I believe in karma too - and I'm sure they will get their "come-uppance" - just not soon enough for me!

Well I do try as much as possible to avoid them. Itto's just that sometimes these comments are thrown in the middle of topics and threads that are entirely irrelevant to them. Also, as cats is one of my favourite subjects, I tend to go to that subject of interest a lot. Thanks for responding anyway.

I hear you Rosie, and feel just as upset, angry and frustrated as you do, knowing that pets are angels in disguise. The only thing that I can do is continue to love and care for my cats and send donations to the animal shelter. Thank God for the majority of posters on myLot who also love and treat their pets with love and affection.

Gee Rosie, vent away my friend, and I understand so well what you are talking about here. I never end posting on such discussions (as described in your post) here because I am sure I will loose my cool. These people should see with our eyes what they are causing to the animals really, as with their eyes they seem blind :( It's heart breaking, and beyond cruelty...
If only we could take more than we already have I would have done it already, as it breaks my heart that I cannot have more than the 6 we have while so many are in need of a home.

I can't believe that people have written about such things here. I have not run across anything of that nature yet, but I'll be on the lookout now. That is sickening.
Anyone who can abuse an animal has a legitimate mental problem that could quite easily lead to them harming or even killing a person as well. Be careful never to let someone into your real life with such an issue. They are bad sick people who need professional help.

Well said Rosie and I totally agree with you there Gissi is a rescue Dog as you know he was badly beaten when the Police found him
I have not seen these Discussions and I don't want to as they made mad and sad at the same time
I wish that Humans could be treated the same way that they treat their Pets just to show how it feels
If you do not want a Pet and are not committed to it then don't bl$$dy get one, they are not there to be cruel to

I agree with that to and I am not a violent Person but it does get to me
Gissi has been the worst affected Rescue Dog I ever got but with a lot of Love and Patients and a couple of bites he is so adorable now
Yes he has bitten me 3 times since I got him because of fear and not knowing what was happening but now that fear is gone
He did break the Skin I have the Scars but do you I don't care I knew I must have done something that flashed memories in him and he always looked so sorry after he bit me and he is still with me and I love him to bits
It was all part of learning about one another and taking the fear away from the little Fellow

Absolutely. My Wilby, who was badly beaten as a kitten, has occasional attacks of panic, where he attacks me - especially when he is put in his cage, or in the car to go to the Vets. But I know it is only fear and an old memory rekindled that makes him behave like that. Animals are like people - they have great abilities to love, but also to feel fear and rejection, and we must accept that and work together to make all our lives better. Thanks for responding here tonight my friend.

Totally agree Gabs my friend. And I adit tat even though I am a generally passive and non-violent person, I could easily commit murder to anyone who hurt an animal. My dear late Mother always used t say that anyoe who hurt an animal was te "lowest of the ow" because they had no feeling, emotions, or empathy for other living creatures, and I aree with her. Bless you!

It really is terrible what humans do to other animals. I am happy to say that between them, my sister and her friends run a number of animal rescue programs, and sponsor many others. My sister is a foster mother for dashchund puppies and adult dogs, and another friend runs a cat rescue program. I got my cat from a lady who had to give hers up because he was not compatible with the other animals in her home.

Oh Rosie...you go girl! I couldn't have said any of it better. Every point you have made is a sore spot with me too. I cannot fathom why people are so insensitive...and inhumane to the animals they bring into their lives and then dispose of when it no longer suits their needs.
Our cats have scratched us so many times as they used David or I as launching pads as they past through on some wild chase..catching flies...playing tag with each other or whatever else catches their attention. So you get a scratch or the furniture is covered in pet hair...they give so much back in exchange for the food and shelter their owners provide that in my view...like yours the owners gain the greatest benefit.
Maybe what countries like the U.S.need is great pet education. They buy pets for their children without factoring in vet bills, spaying, neutering, nutritious food, cat litter. During the last couple of years my hubby had some health problems and the care, feeding, shots and 'fixing' of our 5 cats was something we attended to even with a lower income. We like you view them as a lifelong responsibility and we will cut back somewhere else rather than compromising their health and well-being.
I find stories like the ones you cited very heart wrenching too Rose...and I am glad you vented your feelings and created a forum for others to rally around your cause and hopefully develop a more conscious, responsible approach to the treatment of all animals...domestic ones for sure...but for wildlife as well. Look at George Bush and his intent to kill hundreds of prairie dogs because they might carry disease. Give me a break...they are a natural part of the landscape all over North America for years...and now they have to be killed in droves? There are so many other examples of animal cruelty...too much inbreeding of pedigree dogs, puppy mills, using animals for scientific experimentation, those lovely 'hunting farms' that Cheny shot his friends face off...big game hunters that they are.
Time for me to sign off...I am starting to rant and get worked up...breathe...take a breath...anyway
Great topic...great perspectives thanks for showing your love of animals again.

Hi Raia, and thanks for taking part in this discussion. I don't profess to know enough about the George Bush and the prairie dogs situation to comment here - nor about the Cheney thing - we tend not to hear much US news of this sort over here, but I agree that wildlife too needs to be protected. One thing that does upset me a lot, is a lot of the American attitude to the whole animal issue. Of course there are many, MANY wonderful people there who adore animals - many of whom have voiced their support here, and I am proud to call them my friends, - I certainly would never wish to offend them. But there also seems to be an attitude to pets and animals in general in the States that, as a European, I find offensive and upsetting. In some ways it would be easier to accept it from people in the so-called "Third World" were poverty is real, there are no benefits systems, and the whole religion/cuture/ethos is different from the West, but I would have expected better from a so-called "civilised" Western Chrsitian society. In one discussion here for example, I read that kittens are regularly given away in places like WalMart, sometimes when they are not even fully weaned! Well that would be illegal here in Europe on humane grounds - the same as hunting with dogs is illegal, Vetinerary care is free for those on low incmes whose pets are unwell, and cruelty to animals is punishable by very strict laws, as well as a host of other things. It has upset me greatly, and I wish all the best to those American posters here (they know who they are!), who are fighting to change these perceptions and make their world a beter place for all living creatures.

Hi again..
I am very appreciative of your best response on this topic because there were some excellent comments. It was so good to read your strong stance for animals who do not have a voice of their own. We need to keep talking about animal rights concerns because in many parts of North America we have a way to go before we catch up to the systems in place in your country.
I would love it if the government would implement similar benefits for those who cannot afford to have their animals spayed and neutered or have proper vet care. That would make a vast change in the quality of life for animals that are often discarded rather than cared for.
So much of what goes on here goes unchecked...and I with there were harsher penalties to increase levels of accountability. Sadly it is not the case...but I guess all any of us can do is speak out and donate funds when possible to our favorite animal charity.
I appreciate this discussion a lot...and I enjoyed reading comments from others. So rant away my animal loving friend...I respect your voice in more ways than one...but you already know that my UK friend!

Hi rosie, I hope you are not serious about leaving myLot. I feel as you do about animals, they have feelings as we do and must be loved and treated with kindness. I too get very upset with those who are cruel to animals, but things have improved and it is better then it was a few years ago. perhaps someday it will be no more. Blessings.

Hi Pose. Wel for all the people who upset me here, there are others like yourself and other people here who make me love the place. I will probably be spending less time here in the future, and definately try and avoid the topics that make me so upset, but I guess I will still be around from time to time when work etc allows . I am going on holiday later this week, so hope that will give me some time to cool down a bit! Thanks.

Rosie hon... You said it just right. I couldn't have said it better. People need to realize that animals are living beings just as we are and are capable of love just as we are. It's so sad how some don't see it like that. It makes me want to shake them hard and scream at them but I know it'll fall on deaf ears but if we continue to educate them in this issue then maybe, we can only live in hope, we'll get them to see it as we do. I love animals as they're my own children and would never ever harm one. In fact, I swerved to miss a possium the other day and almost wrecked my car. Luckily I didn't hit it nor wrecked and I thank my lucky stars for that. But I will always try my best to miss an animal regardless of what they are for they have every right to live in happiness just as we do.
Bless you dear!

Well I totally agree with you and I'm sorry you are so upset. The only argument I can remember having with a friend who has now passed on is about animals she said they don't have souls I believe they do. I worked at an animal shelter for awhile and one the things that broke my heart the most was the people who come in with a 12 year old animal and tell you it's sick and they just can't take care of it anymore and want you to put it down. I think thats a big problem in our society people do it to their relatives too well Grandmas old and sick lets just put her in a home and wait for her to die, because I don't want to be bothered with it. Until humans learn how to treat each other how will they ever have any compassion for animals?

I recently posted a discussion on pets. I wanted to know how many people who say they considered their pets family, actually ment that in it's full and true meaning. I love my cat and have it insured so that if anything happens it won't have to go without treatment cos i couldn't afford it otherwise.
I can't say i've come across these posts your referring to, and would be truely horrified if i did. Every thing you've just said is the truth and told passionatly-Though this is the first time i've read one of yours, it'll be a shame if you write no more-cool off and give it thought, we're not all bad

Hi twilight, - and - don't worry I know people here are not all bad! I have been here a long time now, and have many good friends here. I am glad your cat is insured - I have 6 of the little beauties, and all are insured too for the same reason. If you love them - it is the best thing to do. Thanks for your response, and I am cooling off a little with the help of a nice gin and tonic:-)).

well my friend,i feel the same way as you,i cant see how people can treat their animals like they are just an object.to me any kind of animal is a precious animal to me know matter what it is it should be treated with love and respect just like a person.i feel people that harm their animals and neglect them shouldnt even bother to own one, whats the purpose if they arent gonna give it the love it needs and the attention.they are not just animals, they are precious parts of our family and your right people treat them like garbage.if i could own every lonely animal out there i would.well i hope you stay on here my friend,i enjoy your discussions and your great friendship.take care hon.love, pattie
