If you remember the 1983 world cup where Indian team excelled, we find that 9 out 11 players were all rounders. In the present team this number is hardly 2 or 3. I think depending entirely on specialist bowlers or batsman doesn't works out.A player is one who contributes to the game where ever he is asked for. Indian team selctors should see that such players who are allrounders should definately get place in the team. The ratio for all rounders and specialist players could be somewhere 7:4 . I think this will workout in better performance of the team.

Yeah, we surely need a couple more of allrounders of the ranks of Irfan Pathan.. Irfan has played very good cricket since his comeback after the T20 world cup, where is played splendidly.. If a couple of allrounders of that brilliance come into the Indian team, it wud help the team a lot...

very true. India needs more all rounders so that we can reduce the number of bowlers and depend on the all rounders instead. Its sad that people are not able to find such players across domestic cricket in india but the fact remains that india should make some entry for real all rounders.
Young players should come into the attack. They should be given more opportunity and they should be taught how to be all rounders and indian cricketers must really concentrate on becoming all rounders to support themselves and win matches comfortably.

ya I too agree with you India is in urgent need of some allrounders because when a specialist fails he fails as a whole but when an allrounder fails in one department of the game he has other two departments to show and that is what the team needs, it doesn't want its players to fail as a whole but it wants that atleast they play in one or other aspect pf the game.

Fully agreed. However, I personally think that there is hardly any GOOD QUALITY ALROUNDER. That is the problem. Saurav, Sachin. Yuvraj, Sehwag all can bowl. Are they good even average bowlers? The average bowler also will get atleast 4 to 5 overs in a 50 overs match. Even Saurav who has 99 wickets to his credit sometimes doesn't get even a single over in a match...! It means that the captain has not considered as a bowler...
We need a quality alrounder...if we cannot produce so many Kapildev, atleast one fourth as good as Dev will serve the purpose if we have atleast three such players.
Now, another question here is where from do we get these alrounders...?
We have good players who can be moulded as alrounders in the form of Piyush Chawla, Irfan Pathan etc. It is a question of time that we have to give them to grow up as alrounders. Gerg Chapel had tried to do the same thing, somehow he did not get success and what he got in turn is known to all of us. So who is going to try it again now?
