I would suggest this. As this helped me when I was learning other languages and it is more enjoyable.
If you like music, then I would say start off by learning some english songs. Music sticks with you more quickly then simply reading.
Also perhaps you would consider getting some basic readers? The easiest ones there are like Dr. Seuss. It may seem silly but you will learn good grammar in them and start off at a relatively easy pace.

I am a Native English teacher living in Mexico. I often suggest to my students to go to the museums, hotels, restaurants or places were the tourist would be and make an effort to start conversatios with the English speaking tourist. Tell them you are learning English and that you want to practice speaking. When you read, please pay attention to the grammar stuctures so that your writing will improve. Try to enter chatting also will help. Just because you studied English for 5 years does not make you an expert. To become an expert, you must dedicate at least one hour or more every day doing things in English, listening, reading, writing, speaking, reviewing your books and notes, etc. As always, dedication, desire, discipline gives you fruit for the path to your goal. Listening to music, sing with the songs, reading the paper, book, etc. read in a loud voice to hear yourself. Eliminate fears to speak. Fear always closes doors. You want to do it, just do it.
