Now, I'm not talking McDonalds or even your local Denny's or something. I am looking for an experience that I would return for. In my travels I have come to the conclusion that it is the little family owned restaurants that serve up the best and sometimes unique dishes.

If you like to try different pizzas I would definetely send you to "Tal-Kaptan" in tha capital of Malta. It's the best .. is base is crunchy and light while it's sauce is no ordinary one. You can choose between garlic, herbs and olive oil dressing, barbeque sauce and much much more. Going there is always a nice experience.

If you came over to the UK and visited Birmingham then I would have to take you to the Balti Belt, an area of Birmingham famous for its curries. One of my favourite places is called Dirwan, a small and unpretentious place, but the food is amazing

I almost made it to Scarborough this year for a certain book signing. But things didn't work out. How far is Birmingham from there? In any case the Balti Belt is on my list. Thanks, my friend.

Well, since we moved I don't know any good places in the new town. But in the old town....you just HAVE to try El Potrillos. It is a family-owned place. I keep thinking they have the grandma chained to the stove...LOL. The food is excellent, the service is, too. They are very friendly and will chat if you're open to it. They make THE best Mexican food I have ever come across.

I don't know about the fried ice cream, but the sopapillas are melt-in-your-mouth. The plates are huge for a reasonable price. I have never finished one in one sitting yet.

If you were visiting my town, I would take you to Harry Savoy's Seafood and Grill. It is the best restaurant in Delaware I think. The food is spectacular as well as their beverages and everything else on the menu. If it were not so expensive I would be visiting there more often.

First of all, i am from the country Philippines. I am born in Manila. Let's see. I will bring you to Luneta, Luneta was called Bagong Bayan (New City) before. This is the place where our national Hero Jose Rizal was killed. A ban of soldiers gunned him because he had different beliefs over the government. Anyway, in this place you will find his monument. We will just lie on the ground talking, and me sharing historical story to you. There are many streets food there like fishballs, cheesedog sandwich, cheesecorn...we will try all the street food, even the dirty ice cream. I will just show how simple is being a Filipino. I hope you will appreciate that.

In any case, I would love to share in Filipino history lesson and what it's like to live there. Then to have dinner or lunch from the street vendors sounds wonderful. What is dirty ice cream? Mmmmm, very interesting. Thanks for the invite and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Hi, I am from the Philippines and there are a lot of good places here that offers local delicasies. Bulacan (where I hail from)and Pampanga a nearby province even offer a food tasting tour for local and foreign tourists. I agree with you it's usually those small, out of the way, hall in the wall family run restaurants that offer the best tasting and unique dishes.

I love pancit. My mom still makes it for us once in a while. And duck eggs are great. We put them in salt water for a few days with a few potatoes. When the potato rises to the top we know the eggs are done. Yummmm. Street vendors are the best I hear.

Well my choice where to send you for a bite to eat here in Peterborough Ontario is this little family diner called `Wimpy`s`. Its an older little diner that looks like some 50`s diner and the food no matter what you order is large in quantity and pretty affordable.

I agree. They even have real mashed potatoes etc when you are looking for something that is nourishing and comforting. The chains often times have much of the same recipies. At the family owned they usually have recipes that are from their family....passed down from generation to generation and approve by their own families before it gets to you!

Hello there, if you have the opportunity to come to my country Singapore, I would bring you to eat Chicken Rice and durian (fruit). Our Chicken Rice is renowned in the region and I think all tourists should try it. Durian is a fruit found mainly in Southeast Asia. It's a smelly fruit that is green in color. It is known as King of Fruits in Southeast Asia. In my opinion, it is very delicious and it is my favorite fruit.=D

Hi Gtargirl, Family owned restaurant I have for you!! Its actually a bar and grill, with a room full of TV's, regulation pool tables, and arcade games scattered throughout the place. Its called Corner Pocket. I live in Southern Illinois in a small town called Du Quoin (pronounced du coin). You can sit at the bar and watch your fave game, or play pool by the hour on their regulation pool tables, or just have some fun with some of the arcade games they have available. They have a great menu from Giant Breaded Shrimp to a home made 3/4 lb cheeseburger thats so big they have to slide a skewer down the middle to keep it together. I think the most unique thing on the menu, to me because Ive never heard of doing it, would be the fried pickles and the fried cauliflower, both excellent with a cheese burger or any of their other sandwiches. They def dont skimp on portions in anyway! You get what you pay for. Bay xx
