I have just learnt that tai chi chuan is one of the most ancient Chinese martial art and I am having a free lesson in my gym. It is based on a combination of breathing, meditation and smooth movements and it helps you relax and keep fit. I read about it in a book from Matilde Asensi and now they are teaching it in my gym. Do you know it? Have you ever tried? I can't wait until I try this new activity!"!!!

Tai chi chuan has a tight relation to Kungfu.Chinese old ancients not only took it as a way to keep healthy but also as a way to clutivate their morality.

I am not familiar with this Tai chi chuan. What I heard about this is that it is a form of dance. If I would be given an opportunity, I am interested to learn more about it! :)

let's say that you have to learn complicate movements and exercises but you move very slowly. I saw the teacher showing soem exercises and yes when looking at him, you could imagine he is doing a sort of ritual dance...I am trying as soon as possible and then I will come here and tell you more about it!

Tai chi chuan is not considerde as a form of dance in China,it was consider as martial art before but now we take it as an method of exercise. In china, you can see many people playing tai chi in the part at the early momning and now more and more young people try to learn it.We have a association of tai chi just set a few weeks ago in my university.

Wel i really do not know much about the different styles of tai chi, but i do know that tai chi is originated from katas of the chineses war exercises, and that it helps to balance and renew the natural flaw that we have in our body and in nature. I am starting tai chi in a group on thursday, will be happy to ask my teacher that question and to answer you later on.

I have heard of Tai Chi. My husband and I would like to take classes but can't afford them nor are they held at time when we can participate. Another option we are considering is purchasing DVD's so we can do it at home. It is very low stress on the joints and great exercise!

Dear maribea, I have not heard about tai chi chuan, the martial art. I have seen many chinese movies where martial art are performed. It is really good to see the martial art on those movies. Always I like to see those movies because they use such a trick and technique it was always enticed me. I am from India. When I was young I learned to fight with bamboo stick. Though it is a danger game to learn but with a use of bamboo you can even obstruct the bullet, if you practice it in the right manner.

From what I have read so far tai chi chuan is very different from the other kinds of martial arts even though as madcrowd told us you can use it as a martial art and it is linked to kung fu. It is a sort of exercise, very fluent and it is linked to a special philosophy..I hope I can have my lessons and then I will add something more

i'am glad to see that you can learn tai chi chuan in your gym.tai chi chuan is one of the tradional martial arts in China,we also have many other martial arts such as Shao Lin Chuan.we Chinese take tai chi chuan as one of the most precious tradions. The thought of tai chi affects chinese culture a lot and many things eapecially philosophy relate to it.We want to spread it to the world now.If you do concen the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, you may have notice the badge.I have upload a picture here: www.mylot.com/w/image/1777099.aspx .Upper half of this picture is a chinese character with a meaning of beijing and you can find the shape of this character comes from the movement of tai chi. My university set up a tai chi association just a few weeks and i'll be awire to their exercise soon.It is really a good exersice to body building.
