Do rainy days affect your mood significantly?

Naturally, we all prefer sunny to rainy days. However, some people's moods are actually signficantly affected by the weather, some more than others. I, unfortunately, am greatly affected by the weather. Sunny days are no problem, of course, but rainy days are. Here in New York, where I live, we have had a string of about 9 straight rainy days, and I have definitely been depressed. I am trying to fight it. I realize we have no control over the weather. Any advice on how I can help myself with this? How do you react?

A rainy day here or there doesn't affect me at all but if we get a lot of rainy days in a row, it makes me sluggish. I don't get depressed or blue but I do get lazy...just don't have the energy or desire to do anything except snuggle up with an afghan and a good book. Sounds like you might have SAD (seasonal adjustment disorder)....I think I had it when we lived in MI...the sun almost never shows in the winter and I would get depressed. Consider buying yourself a natural light lamp...sit under it while watching tv or while on the computer. It is supposed to be a big help for those with SAD. You can read more about it here: http://www.outsidein.co.uk/sadinfo.htm

Actually Im a very optimistic person, when it rains im actually just as happy as if it was sunny. If its sunny out I go and enjoy the sun and have fun. If its rainy I stay inside and relax. Rainy days actually help me relieve stress and make me feel fairly tranquil and calm.
