At least, I believe "No pain, no gain." So if you want to have a good job, you must work hard. And the key is persevering, for the process must be difficult that may make you give up.
For me, last term I passed CET4 with a satisfacted mark. My English is not very good, but I studied hard and insisted, finally I got paid.

I think the saying fits, but not in a financial sense of the word. For example, a parent works hard to raise their children properly and they grow up to be productive, successful adults, that is the parents "payment" for all that hard work. I think no matter what you do if you know in your heart you did your best, even if you don't succeed it is rewarding.

Is there such a saying? Well, if you work hard for the purpose of getting paid- surely is, you will be paid. If you exerted so much effort and does the right thing, yes, I believe that you will be paid. It lies on your hands.
