My mom passed away over 10 years ago. I miss her the most near this time of year with the 2 big Holidays nearing. She made a lot of things craft wise. The attatched photo is one of I think 9 different houses etc that she made many years ago. These are a plastic frame with holes that she cut according to plans then used a needle threading the yar into the plastic to make the pattern. Some have plastic beads as door knobs and other decorations. This one here is a Reindeer house. There is also a toy shop, bakery, post office etc. These are now a family heirloom. She also made ornaments by hand when I was a small lad. I have them as well. maybe nearer the holidays I'll post photos of those 50 year old ornaments she made. Do you have any decorations you or a family member made that you treasure? Please share them here for us all. I have a few more photos to add to the responses as well here later. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I think these crafts that are handmade are very endearing and very beautiful. You will never be able to find things like this anywhere. My grandmother didn't do anything such as this, she wasn't a crafty person. But the most touching memory I have is that she would take her old stockings and make christmas stockings for us, by filling them up with oranges, apples, nuts, candies and hang them in the dining room for us kids to pick one. She had a lot of grandkids and little money so that is what she did for us. That is a very special memory to me. Although, if I tried to take some of my old stockings and make one of these for my daughter she would probably have a fit lol.

Another Craft Hopuse - Another house for the holiday decorating
When she visited us she would always have me drive her to one of the craft stores near me to buy the itmes she needed to make various things. I miss those trips a lot too. The stocking idea your mom did was great as well. I make a stocking for both grandkids as well. But no fruit in them. HAHAHA!! They prefer the candy & small gifts in them. I have always admired people who have the gift of crafting. Those little houses she made are so cute and very nice addition to the holidays. I am sure they mean a lot to you and are very treasured. I think they are quite lovely!

Your Mother's plastic canvas work is exceptional! I can't wait to see more photos of her work. You have such a treasure. I am glad that you honor your Mother by placing her work out for viewing during the holidays. Big huggers to you.

About half the collection - I think I have about 8 or 9. They are still packed away.
Thanx for the hugs. Read the other responses as I've added more photos to some. Here's a shot of half the houses in the collection I have. The chimneys are open so I buy cotton balls. I pull one apart and stick it in the chimney to make it appear as smoke. I move the smoke also daily to make it appear as the wind is blowing from a diiferent direction. I love that you still keep the memory of your mother alive. I went and saw the picture of the needle point that she did and I think it is awesome. Thank you so much for sharing.

My mom was never into crafting so I'll never have that to look forward to when she's gone. On the other hand through the years I've made decorations for different holidays and given them to my kids and I know they will remind them of me when I'm gone.

Your late mom was a person of "art & craft' minded one, if not how can she did that miniature 'Reindeer Barn' so perfectly done and in such a creative way. A good reminiscence tool for you and of course every time you look at it, the past sweet memories inculcates in your mind. For me, my mother still alive and she is more on cooking recipes and no nothing about handcraft. Thanks Grandpa Bob for being good boy to your late mother, its proven on that well kept of Reindeer Plastic Barn. Good boy in good life.

That's a great reindeer barn, Bob. Your Mom did well with it. I have made a few Christmas decorations over the years, but I never take pics of them. I guess I should really. I've made a Nativity Stable, knitted mice, dressed as carol singers, tree decorations, pull-out paper decorations, wreaths, table centres, yule logs... too many to remember. I love messing about with things like that. I have a number of little knitted stockings, lol. I hang them on the garland that goes around the fireplace. :) Brightest Blessings.

I had to come back... I forgot the Snowmen and Snowladies. I made a pair for each of the family relatives one year. The man has a black felt top hat, a green waistcoat and a red scarf and the lady has a mop cap in a Christmas material. I chose a tiny holly pattern for mine, and she has an apron to match. They're made from white fur and stand about six inches tall. They've lasted me for years! :)

I have a ton of ornaments that my children have made over the years, and I still put them on the tree every year. I also have about 19 ornaments I made. When I was younger and my eyes were better, I did quite a bite of cross stitch work, and that's what those ornaments are. This Christmas, I'll try to remember to take pictures and share them here, if you'd like. Thanks for sharing your picture and memories with us.

What a wonderful treasures you have there grandpa BOB..and I'm sure your Mom loves to see them on display on your houses every christmas season. :) nice craft..beautiful. Mom is not into craft so we don't have homemade christmas decoration. The only thing I remember when I was still a kid was the home made christmas tree, dad will cut some dry nranches of a small tree, mom and my sisters will wrap it with green japanese paper and then they will hang candies on it..
