Paper Cuts

I started a discussion about letter openers the other day. Today I want to deal with closing up mail/envelopes. Do you lick the flap or use sopme type of office product to wet the flap? Have you ever gotten a paper cut on your tongue from licking the flaps? I hate Christmas time as I send out cards & have gotten paper cuts on my tongue in the past. The last couple of years I used a wet washcloth running the flap of the envelope across the flap to seal it. I hate the cuts on the tongue as they last a lot longer than one on the fingers etc. I am glad they have made self sticking stamps. Now if they'd lower the price on self sealing envelopes I may purchase them. Or if they had these types of envelopes with boxed cards. But I have yet to see that.

I hear you there grandpa Bob! It would certainly be nice if they could make envelopes like that.. In the past I'd get a paper cut on my tounge too, They do hurt and last longer.. No idea why either.. You'd think they would heal faster.. I don't know... The stamps never bothered me though just the taste wasn't so good was all.. Maybe one day they will come out with such envelopes...

Even for Christmas cards? I know they have the regular ones.. If they do have them for Christmas cards than I need to go and do some shopping around to find some... I don't have any kind of office supply stores in my area... Wal-mart is probably the closet to any supply store I have in the paper products and I believe I've never seen them there...

No Office Depots? No Staples Stores? Some card shops sell them as well like Hallmark Stores in malls etc.

Now what about surgery on a paper cut? HAHAHAHA! Go to an office supply store. They have the self sealing envelopes. You just peel off a piece of paper from the flap is all. Just like the stamps.

ew. Tongue cut CANT be fun because you cant bandaid them and they probably hurt all the same pain. Ick. Truly I use my tongue though unless its a big job. I just recently did 200 envelops and got one of those water thingys from Staples and used that on them. MUCH better then licking 200.

I don't swend enough cards to buy that item. I've seen them though.
A basin to hold the water then a roller wheel to slide the envelope across to wet the flap.

Hi there,i just hate licking those yucky envelopes, haha.I get my daughter to because she likes it.Right now id like to train the dog to do it,it likes to lick anything there is especially behind the ears for some reason and skin.We call it the "skin licker"second nickname, hehe.I have experienced a nice paper cut on my tongue before and it hurt alot, especially if i forgot and drank some orange juice.I automatically would shrivel up like a prune from the pain in my mouth, haha.:)

I sometimes lick the flap of envelopes but I've never had that experience of having a paper cut on my tongue. Oh, I can imagine how painful that must be. I had paper cuts on my fingers though and they are terrible. To prevent that from happening, I just exert more effort to look for a paste or glue whenever I had to deal with envelopes. And when it comes to paper, I try to hold it more slowly and carefully.

try to avoid a paper cut on the tongue. Especially a big one as the tongue bleeds forever it seems and you'll be tasting blood for sometime.

strange but i got to know what a paper cut is through my brother only a couple of years back. i refused to believe him that one could have a paper cut and thus tried to prove my point by licking flaps and running paper over my lips!;) and really i didn't get any paper cut!lol so i can say i still find it weird if people say they have a paper cut!;)

Ouch - I remember the pain of those paper cuts to the tongue! I am very lucky that I haven't done this in a long time even though I do still lick the envelopes. I agree about the self sticking envelopes, they are fantastic but too expensive and why don't they have those with Christmas Cards! That is a brilliant idea - maybe we should ask one of the greeting cards manufacturers about this idea? xxxx

I always used wet sponge to wet the flap and easy way for me to enjoy closing the envelope if there are many of it, especially for enveloping Christmas card. I hate licking that ready-glued-flap, because it effected my taste bud for long hours on eating foods.

OMG, I hate to get a papercut from licking an envelope. I have had those cuts on many occassions. I am always too lazy to go and wet a napkin or something so I take a deep breath and lick. I hate the taste of the glue too. Then I always sit there and think....'what if' scenarios. What if someone has tainted the glue, what if....

HellO!
*hehe* Oh..I remember those days grandpa bob...those days of licking the flap to seal those envelopes..those days were fun I must admit, me and my cousins used to enjoy it and challenge one another who can do it the fastest LOL!!. As a kid it was fun for me, then later on I hated it especially if I have to lick many envelopes! LOL!! it would dry my mouth and hurt my tongue LOL!!! Then I started using paste, then glue and then those cello tapes with different designs and colours. I just love them..! *hehe*. Now, i'm just thankful that those self sticking flaps are available in the market, such wonderful product! LOL!! no hassle..no dryness! LOL!! take care. *smile*
ciao! c",)

I started doing that too with my Christmas cards because of the taste. Gee after so many envelopes, bla! is the taste of glue in my mouth! Now for buying envelopes, I buy only the ones already ready to be sealed so I don't have to use my tongue. LOL
