Characters in the works

Hi All, I found that in the new novel I am working on, drawing the characters then turning those drawings into paintings has helped me tremendously. I tend to forget little details about my characters if I am not working with them at that time. One of them has wings, the other a tail. And in these situations I find it handy to use art as a form of being consistent with my characters, descriptions of them and situations they may get in. Does anyone else use this technique? Just wondering? Anything to recommend? r.

You are highly talented. I think that your technique is excellent!I myself do graphic novels, and as you know, the graphic novelist has to draw. This the first time that I have come across something as fantastic as the work that you are doing. All I can say is keep at it, the world certainly needs brilliant innovators such as you.!!!LOL!!!

Thanks for the compliment. I think for me that I am more inclined to remember details when I see them and make them. It is also the same as my study technique, I will either draw those mind maps or just rewrite things over and over again. I am hoping to one day buy a HUGE canvas and put all six of the main characters onto it. I think it would be neat to do ti on a bigger canvas because I can go into more detail. I am hoping that this peice of art can transform the book and make it seem more real, I am only in the planning stages now, but I am hoping the painting will also inspire me to keep on it. Do you ever just run dry?

yeah, you can do either writing the details first and then try to sketch it out in paper or the other way around to see how will your character turn out. this is how i usually create my characters in my own manga. ^.^ though im not professional as you are, and drawing is one of my favorite hobby, im still proud of my works and keep doing the best that i can do to improve my work ^.^

You're very lucky to be talented enough to paint your characters. :) I can only write down they descriptions for further reference. Your method is far far better though.
