They also like to be called with nick names or pet names. If we call by their original name, they feel strange. My nieces (2) are called PUTTI and PAPU (Their names are Sunitha and Vinutha). Now they are in Singapore, workingin a shipping company. When we telephone, we still call PUTTI AND PAPU. They are married and have kids and I hope the kids will not call by that name. They May not like it. But their husbands call by pet name, christianed by us.

No matter what our mood is, as long as we need to call each others attention we address each other "baby". SOunds common but wow, it's a very good music to the ear. With my friends, I call them with variety of nicknames, I made them most of the time depending on their personality and attitude.*smile*

Hi Deepak,
Ours is a family which have a reputation of having numerous pet names. Infact, my mom, aunts, uncles all are being called differently by different relations. My sisters even have more than 3 pet names. Having said this, I could well be an exception. My pet name is mimpi and others are momo, mompai, mishti. Mou is my good name. It's really a confusion, what do you feel? but it feels very sweet and pampered.
Here I would like to share one thing. My father' cousin brother' family has a unique way to keep nick names. It's according to the month they were born. It goes like this:
January born: Jany
Feb: Phoeby
March: Mirchi
April: Appy
May: May
June: Juni
July: Jelly
August: can't remember
September: can't remember
October: Octa
November: Novi
December: Deci
So, what do you feel?
I would like to know about your nick name as well. Pls shae.
smiles..

Thanks for a very very interesting response. 'Misti' and 'Mou' sounds very good.
What is your sister's 3 per names?
It is really funny to read pet names on the basis of months. Really Really marvellous idea!
Unfortunately or fortunately I have no pet name....I am called by 'Deepak' only.
(some pet names were used in my childhood to address me, but I am not able to recall those)

Hi deepak, Thanks for appreciating, as always.
My sisters are called tutu, tutai, monami, mithu, tootsie, dimpi....it will get really long.
Deepak is a name that can be used both as pet and good name. It has a wonderful, optimistic feel.

As the other day, we both were discussing how app becomes Tum and Tum becomes Tu.....similarly for people who are very close and loving to us, pet names just come out naturally. I call my daughter Guddiya, and my son Raja, and when I am in good mood, I call my Hubby Rajasthani Gudda as he is from kota in Rajasthan , and when I am angry then I call him "Khaddoss".......lol.....and he calls me Kashmiran, as I spent most of my chilhood in beautiuful valleys of Kashmir........this is what is called informal relationship.......today I call you deepak, but when I will start calling you deepu......then we can say that we are more than friends.......here now I even clarified your doubt about formal and informal relations ship.......Nice discussion.....deepu.......lol

First of all I am sorry, I could not see your response earlier. Interesting to read that you call your daughter 'Guddiya' and your son 'Raja'. These are the two common and easiest nick names which are given to sons and daugthters.
Kuchch acchaa substitute dundlo...'Khaddoss' ka....
'Kashmiran' is a nice one.
Mujehey jo marzi balalo...I won't mind....Deepak...Deepu..Deep........it is entirely your choice.
Have a great day!

I call my children with all sorts of names, with or without meaning. Now my grand child gets this from me. No charm in calling with the real name. Others are there to call them with their original names. This is a privilege to me.

I never really did this, however, my dad's family is from New Orleans, and almost every one of his relatives had an unusual nickname of some kind. For instance, I did not call my grandmother "grandma," she was always "Pouffle" to me... same with my dad and his grandmother. And no, this was not something either of us made up learning to talk like many people speculate - it is a family nickname. My dad called his grandfather "Bunk," and I am told that had my grandfather been alive when I was born, he probably would have wanted me to call him the same name his father went by as a grandfather. Most couples I know call each other by their first name, but my parents always call each other "Babe." Apparently my dad's parents called each other "Poochie."
I never had any nicknames for anyone though. Sometimes I casually call people "dahling" because my favorite actress Cassandra Harris said it so perfectly in several of the roles I saw her play. Other than that, usually I call people by their real name unless they request otherwise.

I call my husband Bear sometimes. Although he is Asiann - he is tall - 6'4 and very broad shouldered. And I always giggle at him in the mornings when I have to wake him up for something (he works nights) because he grumbles like a bear.
I call my baby Snoogs, Snoogins, Bubbha -
Sweet Cheeks/stinky butt.
I've been called many things over the years. I've been called Abacus and Jade by friends. Amy-la, Aim by friends and family. One boyfriend called me Amy-cakes and Cutie, one guy friend callled me Moonlight and another boyfriend called me Arty. Another guy friend called me Al - his name is Al and those are my initials. Really, my name is kind of like a nickname - it sound like its short for something - Amy.
I called one boyfriend Mikeypooh and I had a group a friends - back when I was Jade who all had other names. Cutter, Dalimar, Elric, Raven. You know back when we were teens and into the fantasy type things, the mystical. Things like Elfquest and D&D.

Hello dpk262006..cute question to ask. I used to call my boyfriend-now-husband "My Betong" & he fondly addressed me as "My Isang" everytime we talk via CB/Radioband, ages ago. I swear..we're not possessive of each other! But our real term of endearment is "HAL" short for MAHAL which means LOVE in English.

My boyfriend and I called each other BABY. When we got married, we still called each other BABY. When we had our first baby (daughter), we called her BABY so we change our pet name to PAPA and MAMA because that's what our daughter called us...=)

I'm not fun of nick names, pet names or any kind of changing your name.Maybe because since I was a kid the most of the people try changed my name as I had a different and difficult name.I never didn't like it and when I grown up I told to everyone call me by my real name.Take little time but now I have full success and I want let it like this...

yes it is very rare that i call anyone that is close to me by there real names.. and when i happen to say there rel name it just sounds weird rolling off my tounge almost as if i were in school and i just gave the wrong answer..
my husband i call him honeydew have now since a month into our relationship over 8 years ago.. i call him by his name only when i am mad at him... or i call him daddy when it regards our daughter needing him ill be like daddy gabby wants you.. etc etc..
my daughters name is gabrielle but we call her gabby, most of the time i call her princess or sweetcheeks and very rarely call her by her full first name...
My sister shelly isnt usually shelly its usally sissy or for now.."prego"
my sister amanda is nicknamed pokey because she is sooooo slow!! LOL so i never call her amanda even my daughter cals her auntie pokey
my brothers name is steven by using that name is even weirder then saying the wrond name in school. for as far back as i can remeber i have always called him bubba... just a name for him since he was little and to me if i call him steven i have to be really really upset with him.. man even typing it out feels funny to me...lol
and lastly theres me.. jessica nope to my husband its babycakes... or just baby... same thing applys its very rare to hear him call me by name very very rare adn its an odd feeling when he happens to... My sister shelly also calles me sissy or for now as well 'prego' and everyone else calls ma kaka or auntie kaka... no one uses my name name.. and i sort of like it bnetter this way
cool discussion thanks

i don't have a partner right now so don't need to call him by his nick name!lol but i see usually i address my childhood friends only by their pet/nick name. i prefer to call those friends which i made later by their name and also expect them to address me by my real name and not my nick:) there are two reasons for that i guess, 1. my nick name is something i don't find cute, 2.in my opinion pet/ nicknames are something of a family matter and if everybody in world starts addressing me by that then what would become of my real name!LOL
