Stranger Danger

I was thinking as I walked home from work yesterday and one of the things I wondered was whether or not teaching 'Stranger Danger' to children is a good idea.
A child is generally at far more risk from a family member or a friend of the family than they are from a stranger and they may even need to ask a stranger for help.
I'm not sure what kind of information children are given at these talks - it seems sensible to tell children not to walk off with someone who approaches them at the park etc. but are they also told about speaking out when they have a problem with someone who isn't a stranger? Would the 'stranger danger' talk make them less likely to seek help if they were being abused by a family member?
Any thought about this?
