School shootings

I just read an article about a school shooting in Ohio. It was said that the faculty was aware of the offending student's threats and did nothing. The principle was made aware and did nothing. It really upsets me that this could have been prevented had the principal taken the time out of her busy schedule to listen to her students. Not to mention it is very upsetting that the article is trying to sway opinion against gothic kids. In two areas in this article it states that he was goth and what he wore as normal attire. I don't see how his clothing/lifestyle/music choices have anything to do with what he did. He was quite obviously mentally ill! This is why he brought a gun to school and shot 2 students and two teachers not because he listened to Marilyn Manson. In the past Marilyn Manson has spoken out AGAINST these types of retaliations and urged people not to partake in such crimes. I am not a big fan of Marilyn Manson, but fact is fact. Here is the article if you would like to read it.

I agree with you totally. Unfortunately that didn't happen in this case. Which is sad, because all the warnings were there to begin with and were ignored. You are right no one should take this lightly, any threats should be reported and those reports should have been investigated thoroughly. Thanks for your response.

It is very sad that this happened. Just reading this article sends chills down my spine knowing that after all the kids telling people about it, no one listened and this ultimately happened. Very sad. Drop by anytime to respond lol!

The principal in this case made a serious judgement error. If this could have been prevented by her stepping in she had the responsibilty to do it. Maybe she felt it was just idle chatter or she really was swamped, but it is no excuse. As far as the Goth look, I have no idea why they are making a fuss over it but it seems to play into the whole case. I think basically this boy did not fit into his school setting and thats why they keep mentioning it. It made him stand out as different! God help all involved.

I agree kitty. I am saddened that it happened at all, much sadder that it could quite possibly have been prevented all together. But you can't deal on could have's I suppose. It has happened and it is very traumatic for the students. At least they are providing counseling to them after the fact. This young man needs to be under evaluation and quite obviously locked up. He is a danger to others and a danger to himself. Your right, God help all involved. Thanks for responding.

I agree with you mamasan34, the principal and the teachers should have LISTENED and taken action when they heard of the threats. By ignoring these threats & warnings, this awful event happened. I think a lot of the time, they just look for things to blame it on. Whether this kid was into goth or not, doesn't matter, this kid was obviously suffering a mental illness of some type. I wish more could be done to protect our kids and the staff/faculty, I think most schools have metal detectors on the premises, if they don't, they should. I think in these days of this type of event happening so often, I think it should be mandatory that ALL schools, no matter what type of school, they should ALL have metal detectors that the students have to go through just like at the airport or courthouse. And more money spent on security.

I agree that they are trying to place the blame on something rather than focus on the true issues. The principal was negligent in her duties and that is that. The press tried to sensationalize the fact that he wears goth style clothing and listens to Marilyn Manson, not placing the blame on his mental illness. I certainly agree with you on more things need to be done to protect our kids.

I heard about that the other day on the news. It took place in clevaland ohio I think. I dont know whats going on with kids now of these days but We really have to do something about the safety of our schools. Shootings at schools have happend way to much in the past several years. Why dont they put metal dectectors or something that can prevent any shooting that goes inside schools.

Yes, your right, this did happen in Cleveland, Ohio. The young man who instigated this attack is mentally ill according to the report. We do need to do more in our school systems to enhance safety. Some schools have taken the step of having metal detectors to all entrances of the school but not all, it is highly expensive and takes security personnel to man these entrances, which would take away from funding for classes or supplies/equipment. So, who knows what else they can do to improve security measures, but certainly something must be done. Thanks for responding.

Are you quite possibly insane? How can you be happy for a school shooting in your school and you would be happy to participate? I will say that I have rated you negatively for your sick comment and would hope that you never respond to another of my discussions.
