Here's the story...this woman has a drowning son, brings the son into the house, trying to revive him, calls 911. The officers come, and one slips and falls and breaks her knee. Now, get this...she's suing the family because she slipped on water in the house. The half drowned son is now permanently disabled, in a nursing home. I can't believe this woman. What lawyer in his right mind would even take this case?!! She has a lot of nerve, I'll give her that.

This is crazy but typical of today's society. The officer was called on a drowning case she should have suspected there would be water involved and been prepared. Second it happened while she was on duty her workmans comp should cover the damages and medical.
I don't see how on earth they can hold the family responsible for her doing her job or her not doing her job properly.

Oh my gosh! That is stupid! Of course there was water in the house, they just pulled the boy out of a pool!! My gosh! I just can't imagine any judge granting her any amount of money from that family!

I know, it should be thrown out and not even given the time and trouble of being heard.

It's in Florida, and apparently the police chief urged her not to sue, but she went ahead anyway.

I wonder how the pther officers at her station feel about this. Most of them must be against her decision! I mean, most cops would never consider suing a family like this!
Sorry if it is said above, but I can't see it right now...where is this taking place?

I would laugh if it wasn't so damn true! What a state the world is in now with the sue culture. Seems no one wants to take responsibility and anyone, anywhere whatever the situation or event will sue! It's beggar's belief that this has happened and it just rubs salt in the wounds. A sign of the times sadly and things will never improve. A lot of nerve, very true but sadly there will be lawyers only too happy to take the case in question.

Remember the ladies who tried to sue McDonalds for making them gain weight after eating lunch there every day. This stuff is crazy. I am confused to all of the suing that people are doing. I guess that anyone can pretty much try to sue anyone else.

That's why insurance is so expensive, because people have gone nutty with greed.

The homeowner's insurance policy (insurance company) will have to pay. The insurance company should be paying if someone broke a bone. They should cover her medical costs and pay for pain and suffering. I broke by elbow in June and it is still very painful and causing me problems (I still can't straighten it). That's why we have to have homeowners insurance. Do you think everyone should pay for the insurance, month after month, year after year, and the insurance company should never have to pay a claim? Don't insurance cos have enough money???

Homeowners insurance? Her workmens compensation should have been enough, and if not she should have to go after her employer, not the victim.

She should have known that in an emergency, you are in a hurry. Look the poor boy now is brain damaged, has probably the mentality of a two year old and that will b permanent. What did she want to have happen, the boy to die? I hope that the lawyer dismisses the case. It is not worth the court's time, and what about the family? He might have been their only son. Have they not suffered enough?

"She has a lot of nerve" ...that's putting it mildly!
Would she have also sued the battered wife if she got hurt during a domestic assault case? Maybe an accident victim had she cut herself on broken glass or twisted metal trying to get the victim out of the wreck? Or I know, she could sue the family of a murder victim for HER mental anguish caused by working the case.
People like this really infuriate me. She voluntarily agreed to become an officer. She knew all the potential risks. There is no excuse for people like that.

The officer should of been more careful and that is not the womans fault for bringing her wet son into her home to try and revive him. Man, anything for a buck aye? unbelievable.!

Its all a result of living in a litigious society, bonbon. People would rather sue their neighbor than try and reach an amicable agreement anymore. It is shameful that a "public servant" would stoop to this level. And, as you said, no self-respecting lawyer would even consider taking such a case.
