Married in a Walmart?

Ok, the other night I heard about a couple that got married in a Walmart.
I thought "Oh, that is strange."
Then I googled it "marriage, Walmart." Turns out that they are not even the first couple to do this. Other people have done this.
Now, I am not the most romantic person in the world as my wife would point out. After all, it is a common law marriage. And we are not going to the altar until both of us finish college (it is going to be awhile).
But even I draw the line at having the altar inside a Walmart. I don't even like shopping there.
So what type of person gets married in a Walmart? Would you consider it? Please, tell me that you have a better plan, or got married (if you are married) some place nicer than Walmart.

hhmm. i just heard that from you. well, getting married is a lifetime decision and they are free to choose wherever they want to get married though it seems to be a strange, it's still a "marriage". Every marriage is different, maybe they want to be different! it's not the best place to get married but at least they get married and united as one. hope they have a happy life together. God bless!

Well I am with you....there are hundreds of better places to get married then a walmart.....not too classy was it? And if I were to marry again..walmart would probably be the last place I would consider. They must have met there or something in order to consider it a wedding chapel..

It's an odd idea to be sure. The only reason I can think that anybody might get married in Walmart is that they both work there, and their friends are unable to take the day off to go to the church. So... voila... they bring the altar to work! Everybody's happy!!!
Brightest Blessings, my friend.

I like shopping at Walmart (it's just more convenient for me) but there's no way I'd get married there LOL. It just screams "trashy" lol.

I would get married in a swamp before I would get married in Walmart!!! Of course, I won't shop there unless I can't find what I am looking for anywhere else so it would only make sense that I would avoid it for a wedding as well. I don't think I could even attend someone elses wedding if they were having it at Walmart. That seems trashy to me. I may not get married in a church but I would never consider doing it in any sort of place like Walmart.
"What kind of person gets married there?"
...hmmm I'm not sure I want to know but I think I am going to go do a search on it now because my curiousity is overpowering my disgust!!! I'd really like to know WHY they did it.

Look at Mylot interests section. Places I visited. Someone add “Wal-Mart”.
I rather get married jumping from airplane that in Wal-Mart.
Yes, marriage should start in romantic or crazy way. I can name many places I would consider to get married. If I don’t have money I would go to City Hall, not Wal-Mart.

What could be nicer than walmart? ah, how to convey the sarcasm in that. I can't imagine why anyone would want to get married in any store, not just walmart. I don't think our wedding was much better, but it beats walmart. Neither of us were the stand up in front of a crowd type, so we just went to the local justice of the peace and got married that way. I'm just shocked people would want to be married at a walmart. I wonder if they'll regret it down the road.

Ahh, the public spectacle of it all. That is the only reason that I can think of doing it--maybe they wanted to make the news. It is obvivous that their parents didn't teach them that making the news is bad (or at least tacky).

WOW. That is pretty funny. I think people are weird. Why marry in a wal*mart. I recall in the movie. "Where the Heart Is" she married in a Wal*mart because she had her a baby in A wal*mart. THAT made sense. Why would someone else do it? Btw in the book they dont do that it was for the purpose of the movie only.

Hi morgandrake,
This is a fascinating piece of information. I've never heard of this before. I don't shop there very often, and one of the reasons is, it's always so crowded. I'm not sure 'what type of person' gets married there. Perhaps people who can't resist the sales, no matter what.:) I am widowed, but my late husband and I were married in a church, although it was quite a small wedding, compared to some.

Wow!! A wedding in a Wal Mart and more than one couple has done this!?! I have never heard of this before and I would certainly never consider it!
My husband and I were married on my families farm in the great outdoors other than that I would choose a Church.
One of my cousins was married in a hall which makes more sense to me than a Wal Mart! :)

This sounds awfully tacky to me...although I recently heard of a couple that got married in a public restroom and her dress was made of toilet paper...now that's tacky.
The first time I got married I wore jeans and a t-shirt and went to a JOP the second time was at out home with some of my family. I've never really seen the need for a big extravagant wedding although if someone offered me one for free I'd probably do it just for fun.
