Basically I like to read these fighting stories, and since I'm an Asian, I've been given the chance to read both Western Fantasy Novel as well as chinese mMartial Art novels, I've found three main differences very interesting:
1. The Hero of western fantasy novels do everything with passions, the more passion he had. more likely he would win over the enemy. While the hero of eastern martial art novel press on self control and inner peace, he would lose if he cant keep himself calm.
2. The stories of fantasy novels usually involve in a larger stage like different opinion and politic struggle, while the stories if martial art novel more focus on how someone deal if he's facing options between moral, friends, lovers, when compare to one's benefit
3. The fighting description in fantasy novel would be short and up to point, while the martialart novel would fill in details on how the guy hold the sword, how he wield the sword and slashed the enemy. Sometime the wording could elaborate to halfpage just to emphasize how's both of the duelers feel the pressure from the other.
I think the main reason of differences in the writting is due to the culture of both side. I'm interested of how other feel at it too. Feel free to drop your comment.
