Hey guys, what you think? Why it is easiest for use to loose weight in summer and gain in winter?
I came with this idea.In the winter we are much more cold like in the summer, so our body needs more energy to heat it up.But to ous it look like we are hungry whn we are cold, so instead heating our body with some hot tea or so, we would eat and heat it this way.And then gain and gain...Do you agree with me, or you have other theory?

Hey girl! Well I think its because we are less active in the winter versus the summer time.
Its cold out, we just want to be indoors where its warm and probably eating more because its cold. lol
They say that 75% of pregnancies occur in the winter months ahha

I agree! We need more energy to keep ourselves warm in the winter time and therefore we would eat more. I think in the summer time, the weather makes us less want to eat too and we would love to go out and do something and enjoy the sun, suddenly eating doesn't seem like a major part of life *smiles*.

Hi friend..
Quite an interesting analysis made by youo, but that may be true to an extent..In winters the we keep indoors and shun ourselves from any physical exercises like swimming, running, trekking etc., and the opposite is true in the case of summer.
But as regards India, the Winter is quite severe on the Northern India, whereas in Southern part of India, the temperatures never show any downward trend below 20 degrees..
Happy mylotting. Take care my dear friend.

I think its because in winter we tend to eat hit meals like stew and roast dinner sand stodgy foods to warm us up. Summertime calls for more salads and fruits. Also i always feel less like eating when i'm hot!
There's also the fact that when its cold we don't really tend to spend as much time outside, walking or playing sports, therefore we're not burning as many calories.

well,in winter time there r the hollidays too, christmas and all when christians eat pork and lots of fat food...we also tend to eat less vegetables and fruits, and we cook more meat...its also that we r not so active as in summer time..but for me there is not a bit change..maybe im not a big eater either, but my body doesnt seem to asimilate fat...many girls say they wish they had such an organism but i hate it sometimes..as i think im too skinny..and wish i had some more fat in certain parts of my body:)

Here is what I think: It's too cold to go outside and do anything so we end up staying in and sitting in front of the computer, or television and just eat and eat and eat, lol. Not only that but with the Holidays being in the Winter time too we eat a lot during that time. I know that is why I gain a few extra pounds during winter but when Spring and Summer hit I'm outside either walking the dogs or just walking by myself. Plus we always have a lot of Spring cleaning to do inside and out so that helps us lose those extra pounds we put on during the winter. :)

That does make sense. The weather is much colder and we need more energy, also with all the snow on the ground, it takes more time to walk through it. Not only that, most of the vegetables that can stand the heat are root vegetables, and they are starchy compared to the leafy summer vegetables.
So not only do we eat more because of the need to keep ourselves warm, but since lettuce, tomatoes, broccoli, etc. do not grow when it is cold, we have to import them from places such as California, and the transportation cost makes them more expensive. So if you live in the Canadian Prairies and the Great Plains, you are at a disadvantage all way around.

I tend to believe that I am busier in the summer verses the winter. I believe that I burn more calories in the summer months than I do the winter months. Hence the weight loss verses weight gain. (Plus it is Christmas cookie time and Thanksgiving meal time in the winter).

I agree with you, laurika.Eating can provide us energy and heat, especially in winter, eating can make me feel warm and powerful.
Personally,I seldom do sports when the weather is too bad or not proper.I think we should do exercises in a right way but not everyday. So that's why I rarely do sports in cold winter outside. However,in hot summer,I usually do exercises outside with my classmates.

Hello dear laurika. Well I think that the reasons why we are gaining more weight in cold weather or in winter could be concluded as follows:
1. We eat more for storing more energy to keep the cold from invading us.
2. We are not as active as we are in all the other three seasons to have more exercises because of the nice and warm weather that our heat and energy is not easily burnt.
3. Of course, we wear more heavy clothes which add to our weight, which is a fact that cannot be neglected.
Well, I think that these are the three reasons that I can provide to this question. Thanks for your discussion, dear laurika. Happy New Year to you and your family.

I think your theory is quite credible, and in addition we have winter holidays calling for special food that makes us want to eat more. I do try to eat less in the summer and more in the winter, because if I am too thin in the winter then I feel cold and want the temperature higher in our home, and I don't like the air heating all the time as it gets dry. I like to use the heating and air conditioning as little as possible.

in winter, the outside is cold ,so you seldome enjoy the outdoor life and mostly stay inside the house.that's one reason .in addition,i think our body become less active during the winter to store fat,it's a nature protective reaction to coldness just as animals.

Well, I guess its because in summer you perspire more while during winter you don't sweat so most of the fluid/ water retain in you body.
Also cold weather tends to make you eat more.

I think part of the problem is that in the winter time we crave heavy comfort foods and we have almost all the holidays during the winter. Holidays usually involve lots of food with our families. So we eat heavier, more calorie laden foods and we eat a lot of stuff with our families. Also, the holidays mean lots of sweets and things of that nature.
In the summer we spend a lot of time doing summer time activities such as swimming, baseball and soccer. So we do more physical stuff during the summer and since there are no real big food holidays, we don't over do it with the food stuff.

Hi laurika, many peoples find teir weight changes according to season. Most of the peoples make big effort to loose weight in summer, and stops during winter. If we are less active in winter, than not only our calorie needs wil be less, but also under go harmonal changes due to lower level of mood changing chemical serotonin. This is because we are less active. In order to over come this cahnge in mood , we start eating too many carbohydrates thats why we gain weight in winter.
In order to avoid weight gain in winter, we should be more active than normal season.

Hi,
Well it is because we don't sweat much as well as all our activities are reduced due to the harsh coldness.I myself don't go on a walk in winters and keep sleeping in my bedroom wearing the thickest blanket. The only way to prevent it is to go for a walk daily and stop eating fat foods(only for winter),you won't gain weight, but you won't loose either.
Have a nice day.

hi laurika, i think the cold weather makes a person move less, we like to rest more or stay more at home. We are less active in the winter than in summer time. Some people also tend to eat more in the winter time since they stay more at home and cook. And i think in the summer where we are more active we perspire more also. have a nice day!

im th9inking that during the winter, we don't really get out much, because of the cold weather, most people are in the house sitting around and not doing any sort of exercise. unless it snows and such in which case we might run out side and throw a few snowballs, but thats hardly anything compared to what we would do in the summer. the fact that we don't exercise combined with the need for warmth and food. that will make most people gain weight, where as in the summer one is more likely to go out and have "summer fun" and do those activities, also doing things in the sun burns a lot more calories and there for will cause u to either lose weight or maintain the original.
