With Halloween coming in quick, I wonder how many pumpkin carvers we have here in MyLot? I love carving pumpkins especially with the little kit you can buy. There are tons of designs on the net to carve and you can get a pretty good selection at Walmart's in the kits. I don't do them much anymore but I used to help my niece and nephew with theirs. Are you a carver? Do you do simple eyes, nose and mouth or the more elaborate ones like the one pictured? How many do you tend to do? Is it a chore or do you like to do it? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I hate carving pumpkins! But I do it every year with my kids. They draw there own faces on the pumpkins and I help them carve and clean out the pumpkins. I do think it is cool to see the elaborate ones that are carved with the kits, but I wouldn't want to do it.

I do help carve the pumpkin for Halloween, but I am only the mouth, eyes, nose. I have never tried the other kind, but I think that I would mess it up if I did. I don't have a lot of patience for that kind of stuff and I would become annoyed quickly with it.

My whole family loves to carve pumpkins, but I think I am the master carver in my house. My children usually have the most fun scooping out and roasting the seeds. My hubby is a triangle eyes, nose and mough kind of guy but I love the PumpkinMasters kits with the elaborate designs. I did one last year that looked just like Cinderella. All the neighborhood kids were amazed.

I don't use carving kits or stenciles myself.._ I always come up with my own pumpkin design. It's a different face every year, but this year along with a face I'm going to try an elaborate design...one of the symbols associated with my favorite band, in fact ^_^

I love carving pumkins. I also lve baking the seeds in the oven, but I don't know if I'll have time this year, after moving and all. I used to do it with my kids and grandkids. We always had a great time.

I love to carve pumpkins, especially after the Jamie Wyeth self-portrait called "Pumpkinhead." Then we roast the pumpkin seeds in cinnamon and sugar.Awesome stuff one pumpkin offers up!

I do love to carve pumpkins :) I'm a basic designer myself though. I just love the simplicity of it and the classic look of it. I usually only carve one a year though :)

Not anymore.I use to do all that stuff when my children were small. We would get the kids all dressed up and my neighbor and i would take the kids we would walk down the streets of our neighborhood and the kids would run up to the door, trick or treat get candy and run back and tell us what they got.it was so much fun back then...Now that my kids are grown ,my youngest daughter is a pumpkin carver, she just loves it.We now live in a rural area and we do not get children out here.I do buy candy though and fix up my grandchildren a bag of candy for each one of them, they love that..

I carve pumpkins with my kids. We usually do something semi-hard. I look at it as a chore because it is so hard making the design and everything. One year we did Dora for my daughter, last year she wanted a cat with a haunted house so I did that for her. I don't know what we will do this year, something like a car or super hero for my little boy. My daughter will probably want Tinkerbell or a Bratz on hers...super easy...NOT!! I like the designs that come with the kits so I can tape the pictutre on the pumpkina and start from there. I like getting the "guts" out of the pumpkin because the kids will help with that part =) They like getting all gooey =) Now that I am thinking about itmore it doesn't seem so bad =)

OK, myLot ate my response, so I'll try again. For Halloween I will carve one pumpkin. It is part of the holiday for me since childhood. I am horrid at it though, so most of my pumpkins will be painted. I use the pumpkin for Thanksgiving pies, I'll freeze it to use then. I also make tin can luminaries to line our driveway. We live down a long path so we put some at the road with a sign saying "Trick or Treaters Welcome Here", then more luminaries line the pathway up to our house. We live in the country so people drive their kids house to house. It's too far and dark for them to be walking. You can't see our house from the road, so they can't see the traditional porchlight signal that treats are given here. The pumpkins, luminaries and sign let people know we are home and giving treats. This year I will do my best witch act, I have a really neat costume, full facepaint, a big ol' cookpot that I'll put dry ice in and add a bit of water to make a steamy 'stew' which I'll be stirring. Our dog will be our 'wolf' and my cats will be temporary-dyed black for the occasion. My nephew is gonna be Frankenstein and his gf the Bride of Frankenstein. My mom is gonna be an old hag, sitting on the porch rocking, she'll give the treats. We are all off work for that evening for the first time in several years so we're gonna do the whole shebang. I have wrapped goodies and we'll make chocolate suckers for the kids of parents who know us, plus a crockpot of hot cider. I am looking forward to it. Halloween is probably my favorite holiday and this year I get off work in time to get ready before the kids show up. Last weekend we took flyers to the neighbors houses inviting them to come. I do kinda miss living in time where I had oodles of kids who loved to see what I'd dress up as each year. Last year I worked until too late to do any good preparation, so this year I hope we'll have lots of ghoulies lol.

I love carving pumpkins, when I was a kid we used to do it every year. Then we I was lived all on my own I didn't do it. But when I met my husband 4 years ago we had that in common we loved it so we have been carving pumpkins every year since we got together. Its a lot of fun. We do it all from the simple easy traditional to the harder stuff ! Now we have a 2 year old and this will be our first year carving pumpkins with him. I am excited to see how it goes. :)

Hi twoey, I love carving pumpkins at Hallowe'en, that is one of my favourite things about it. We always get one and my hubby and I agree on a theme, draw it out, and carve away. We don't get a pattern from anywhere, just ideas and what's in our heads. Your Friend, PurpleTeddyBear!

I must admit, twoey, that I have never carved a pumpkin in my life, but I do love the look of them. About the closest I have come would be drawing them. I did do a lot of that in the past. We learned in grade school how to draw them and color them. We would then cut out the pictures and put in the windows and on the walls.

My husband and I have a pumpkin carving tradition. We have been since we were dating. We also go to the pumpkin patch and we each pick a pumpkin. We go so much that the man that I call my 'pumpkin man' gives me a free pumpkin of my choice before we leave. He actually remembers me every year. My hubby and I sit on our front porch and carve away. We usually do them free-hand, but we have used stencils before. I'm not good at free-hand or stencils.:P It's out tradition and it's special to me. In fact, we're behind this year. I guess we're going to go tomorrow. We've usually done it by now, but they rotted quickly last year and we thought we better wait.

Hubby and I love to carve pumkins but we're not so crafty to cut out any one of those designs but we have fun with it nonetheless. I doubt we'll do it this year for we're too far back off the road and have many trees in the front yard that I don't think anyone would be able to see them much less make out the design. My brother and his wife make them every year and they make all kinds of designs with theirs. They amaze us with their talent.

Pumpkin Seeds - I love pumpkin seeds! Hot and salty fresh from the oven as my mom used to do it!
Hi Twoey, I must admit that when I was a kid, I didnt so much like the carving part as I did gutting it and eating the hot salted seeds my mom used to cook in the oven. I loved them!! They tasted so good and once my mom got to cooking them, I totally forgot about the pumpkin, I just wanted to eat the seeds! lol If I had kids, I would def do the pumpkin carving thing and the cooking of the seeds like me and my mom did when I was a kid. I love to carve pumpkins. I bought a pumpkin carvig kit for this year. It has a bunch of stencils in it so you can make really neat pumpkins. I think that I'm going to do a vampire pumpkin this year.
