What would you think?

Our water bill was very high the other month. Some people wouldn't consider it high but it wasn't the same amount as our other bills have been. Our water bill stays between $26 and $30. We got our water bill the other month and it was over $60 and I was wanting to know why. My husband went up to the water bill place and talked to them and they said they would send someone out. She told me there must have been a leak and I said I haven't noticed any water anywhere that it shouldn't be. So she gave me some of these blue tablets to put in our toilet well the water didn't turn blue like it would if it was leaking. And I never did see the person come out and check our meter. I stay home and I see the meter person every single month except that one and when I told them that they said I probably just didn't see him. I know that's not right because I watch kids at home and we stay in the living room that has a very big window that I am always looking out and I see the meter person everytime. So nothing was ever done about that bill and they couldn't give me a reason why it was so high. The rest of the bills since then have been the normal amount. So what would you think if this happened to you? So I just had to spend that money and I didn't use anymore water that month then I normally do.

The last time it happened to me there was a leak but it was in my yard from the main. They had to come out and fix it and reimbursed me for the extra charge...

I should have said on the meter...not the main. They had to replace it.

Yeah I could understand that but we never found a leak. And it has been the normal price ever since.

Our water bill was extremely high too this past bill which is stupid considering the bill before it would have had the filling of the pool, watering the garden, the kids playing in the hose etc etc on it...This last one was, if I'm not mistaken, double than the one before...My husband explained why (something about making up for customers NOT using as much water or something like that)...I'll ask him again if you like....

That's crazy that we would have to pay for customers not using as much water. I can't help that lol.

I can imagine how you felt when you saw your water bill since you have a norm at half that huge bill was. I feel your frustration at having to pay that bill. Mine is usually $44 a month but this includes Garbage pick up, police fees, firemen fees etc;)

This sounds odd. Maybe there was something wrong with the meter, or the meter reader made a mistake? (I'm thinking maybe there was no meter reading actually done, since you say that you didn't see the meter reader, but it's possible they came while you were having lunch with the kids). We don't get water bills. I think it's included in our property taxes/

The first month we moved into our apartment we were here 4 days and got a electric bill for $34.00! I called them and they said it was our bill allright. No amount of arguing with them would change anything so we paid it. It turned out later that we found out that the bill came from the time between the last ppl moving out and us moving in...when they were in here cleaning carpets and such. They also left lights burning day and night for some reason. Since the electric company is the only one in town there is no arguing with them. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

One of the people in my neighborhood had a similar situation. What he found out was that the neighborhood kids were coming by in the afternoon and getting water from his hose. Evidently they didn't cut it off. He doesn't go out and check every day so he didn't notice any wet spots in his yard. The real clue came when he went to mow his grass, one part of his yard had much higher grass than the other. Evidently the kids in coming and going, realized they hadn't turned it off. He did pay attention after he mowed the grass and caught the kids in his yard. Don't know if that is what is going on with your bill, but it was with his. It didn't change the bill, but at least he had an explanation.

Well only your water companies actually knows whats happening but it is possible somewhere in your yard where your water pipe comes in there might be a leak. One sure way you will know is if you find an area on your lawn within the next week to 3 thats constantly damp then you definitely got a leak but if not I'm not sure maybe they are just trying to scam you or it is possible there's a glitch in their billing system so make sure to check next months water bill for a refund or credit.
