Referrals competing with us for stuff?

I was just thinking, as I was doing some private messages, trying to get people to sign up to a particular site, that although I get a benefit, there is also a downside.
The site is called freestuffday.com.au.

If someone signs up under my referral link, I get 2 points for each person, which is mine forever.
It does not get taken away from me if I 'win' a free item.
So, I get a benefit of having these particular 'points' as mine forever if people sign up.
However, there is also a downside to it.
That is, the people I am referring, will also be competing for free items.
They might not all be competing for the same items, as that would be way too bizarre, but it could also be that the one item I 'really truly want' is the one that one of my referrals gets before I do.
Has anyone else thought of things like this?

There is always a possiblity that the item you "really truly want" is actually received by one of your referrals. However, possibly without your referrals and the points that you earn from them joining under your referral, you would not have the points to get it anyway. So there is a very definate positive side to having referrals.
Okay I joined under your referral but think it will take me ages to get enough points to get something anyway. However, let me know if there is anything in particular that you do want and I sincerely promise not to go for that item. lol

Well i havent understood your concept actually, you say the points are yours forever, so does that mean that you can keep getting free stuff with the same points ?? I think there ought to be some catch somewhere, like for example, you get your first free item at 100 points and then you get your second free item at 200 points and so on and so forth. Is it like mylot, where the number of posts you make are similar to your points.. (like i made around 70 posts, which will be there with me forever) But when I get paid from mylot I only get paid for the posts which I havent been paid for, so is it the same there ?
