Feeling Sick and Going to the Bathroom

Ok, this may sound sort of gross, but I have a genuine interest in this question: When someone is ill, like they have the flu, or a cold or a fever or whatever, does this make them more likely to pass solid waste more often? Is the illness somehow producing more toxins that come out in this way? Any theories? hahaha, always the princess of bathroom talk! =)
