i've been depressed for 6 rocky years. i'm at college, and i've been reading all these depression sites about how college students commit suicide and i don't want that to be me.
the longer i linger and do nothing, the more depressed i get. can you please offer some tips on things i might do in my spare time so that i can get all the sadness out of my mind?
maybe some fun activities. please?
i just need a list of activities, not a lecture on depression. i've had many of those, and i don't want to hear anything right now. no i am not suicidal, but i want to prevent myself from reaching that point.
please don't list expensive activities. i'm on a tight budget

I'm an idea person and when I was depressed, I actually came up with jokes about depression and various disorders. I considered doing stand up, with an area that most haven't touched on, and figured I'd dispell the myth of what a depressed person looks like, (I looked very normal, some said pretty, some cute - my sadness was invisible and I groomed myself). But the shyness I already felt was compounded by depression.
I already made my list - just thought I'd add this!

Do some volunteer work. Helping others will in turn help you. Start a blog. Blogger.com is free. Make the subject "Tips on Beating Depression" and each day make a diary type entry about what you did that day to beat your depression. Even if no-one reads it, writing it down might help you. Don't write any entries of how depressed you were, just how you beat it today.
If this sounds like a lecture I am sorry. Only trying to give you tips. I have suffered from depression myself and know how you feel.
Hugs!

I live on a budget too & can find lots of stuff to do cheap. You have to be kind of creative at times... but I write poetry, keep a journal, take pictures, do art work, take walks, spend time with my family & pets, read... Lordy, there are so many things to do! Listen to music, play my flute, go to the zoo or botanical gardens or rose garden or a museum. Good luck -- no lecture here! ;)

I suggest you follow the principle of motion and rest. For example, come close to nature, watching the sea and mountains peacefully or just enjoying the sunshine in your garden; and then enjoy dancing and singing to the full with your friends or just alone. Another example, have a good sleep or write anything you want like your experiences or feelings; and then do some physical exercises, running or jumping, or just playing with some kids. I hope my suggestion will be helpful for you.

I dont know what you have as talent.Do you do any sort of art work?painting, drawing, dancing etc.these are cheap pasttimes.Crafts and origamies are quite interesting and it can kill time. You can get materials easily (from your household) for making any crafts,be it wastes or any other useless articles. You can make woodworks, kites, puppets or dolls. You can search web for tips on these. The result can give you immense satisfaction and you can use these to decorate your room or use it yourself or gift it to someone(if it is too good). If you are not interested try out any sports ; join a club(tennis, badminton, snooker, bowling, carrom)and get busy.If you are all alone then snooker and bowling can be attractive. Not interested in sports try photography, gardening, fishing, sewing, pottery and even magic.Go get anti-depressed.
