Employee, Employer or both

For the past 8 years I have been an employee while the last 3 years I was also an employer while being an employee. I am still wondering what is the best choice, to be either one of them or both at same time. As an employee its adequate to perform our duties and the monthly income will be guaranteed by your employer. But as an Employer, you are responsible for the well being of all staff under you while you have to look after your other duties too. Yet your return will be higher than an employee. If you become both then will none of the roles perform well? We can find other people's view on this so that I too can take a better dicision. So what you guys think? what are your experiences?
