hey guys!!! i just donated blood yesterday and i feel a little dizzy but generally i'm fine c",) This is a yearly opportunity for employees like me to donate blood conducted by Red cross, they do a yearly visit and this was my second time. I used to be afraid of needles and by looking at the needle and the blood that flows out from the donor made me dizzy and nervous. Gladly i got over it (a little)a year ago and finally decided to donate, because i realized that it is healthy and in the way i could help some who are in need of it. I admit that i don't look at the needle (maybe i'm still afraid.lol!!) and it hurts a bit but it's worth it and i feel happy that i did. how about you guys, haveyou tried donating your blood anyone, friends, loved ones or some who is in need? How do you feel about this?

Hello friend! That is nice idea. You are so helpful. I saw in the news on the other day that some hospitals especially here in our country are already having some problems due to insufficient blood. As you are aware, in today’s season, dengue fever is the very common disease that each and everyone could get if there is no proper sanitation and safety precautions are observed. Blood transfusion is indeed necessary for those patients who have dengue. It is nice to hear from you that even in a small way, you are able to help. Have a nice and God bless!

I do donate blood. The last time - or the second to last - I got an infiltration - my vein blew and my whole arm swelled up and bruised. However, next time they came to my school, I donated. I think all its great when healthy people give of themselves - especially you - being scared before - but getting over it - well mostly :) . Then this time you realized that you're a hero when you donate blood - just like the posters!

It was awful too, I started feeling dizzy, and they took me down the hall - I was actually donating plasma and then I donated blood at my school later - they took me down the hall to see the doctor and I couldn't see anything everything went totally white and I felt extremly nausous and just wrong. It was the scariest thing I ever felt.

The reason I donated again is because it does so much good for someone else.

I am not afraid of injection but I have never experienced donating blood. I'm anemic that's why I'm not fit to donate even a little amount of blood. even if I am fit though, I think I wouldn't be able to donate blood. i'll be afraid to do it. ^__^;; I think it will hurt if my blood is being sucked out. just thinking of it gives me the shiver, the "ngilo" effect to be precise. ^__^;;

Hello secret bear, i use to be afraid of donating blood but that was the time i like you, i was anemic too that was way back in college... this is still my second time, first was last year. i finally decided to try it for the benefit of others, and found out that it was ok. To tell you honestly it only feels like a little pinch and you wouldn't feel the blood flowing either. But like you said you are not in the condition to donate, it's ok my friend. take care of your health c",)

im proud to say that im not really afraid of needles. i might have when i was a little girl but i grews out of that fear. i still remember having a nurse took blodd samples for testing, it was a really huge needle and they told me not to look, but i just stared and was really amazed. did they just do that? after that i would stare at injections and vaccinations i had while growing up. last year, i had an iv when i was in labor with my baby, nurse said it would hurt and i shouldnt look, just said im not afraid of that miss so its okay. this november, im gonna be a blood donor too. a friend of mine will have a heart surgery and he need his friends to donate blood for him. and im really happy to oblige. after his operation, we'd be more than just a bunch of friends, we'd be blood friends. hehe!

Oh no... i can't dare to look at the huge needle!lol i guess you really are brave. I don't mind if i donate blood or have any injections for medicine or vaccine, but i just can't look while they are doing it...oh silly me, maybe i'm still afraid of needles..hahah Awwwww.. that is so nice of you to donate for your friends' surgery. It's a noble thing to do and if i had the chance i won't be hesitant either. Nice to know you've helped someone and that someone would remember you for life... continue doing good for others my friend. you take care always...

I started donating blood when I was in college, you know ROTC and I hope you are aware of that course in college where stupid officers would say dumb things against you!LoL Well I really hate attending it back then, I am just glad that I found another reason why not to attend it. I do fall on formations, but the opportunity just knocked when some Red Cross representatives visit in Fort Bonifacio every sunday to gather blood from donors. That's my que, I found it an excuse and volunteered to not fall in formation from 7 to 11am in the middle of the hot and dry sun. I'm glad that I'm not afraid of needles nor blood coming out of my veins and there it goes inside the syringe. Though it does hurt, but not that long as it is really like an ant's bite!;) After that, we are given drinks and balut, to help regenerate the blood lost. Then it's all rest for us, the volunteers are all excused to bask into the sun as we would act like our energy were all drained!;)

Oh raijin, sorry for the late response c",) I attended CAT in highschool, i guess it's same as ROTC you attended in college. I hated attending formations under the burning heat of the sun. I admit that i fainted once, it was so embarrasing and promised to skip breakfast again. I was too afraid to be late..lol!crap right? about your strategy, i think it's clever, but too bad for me because i was anemic way back in highschool so i can't donate and i was too scared to do that way back then.lol!

Hey its good that you actually helped someone by donating your blood. And Needles.....hmmmm no I am not that afraid of them. Its cool. Whenever I go to my doctor for any kind of injections...I stay very cool cause I am totally ok with them. My doctor just gives me the medicine via injections in seconds...the thing is it hurts "afterwards"..!! It hurts a lot. But its ok when are given in "hand". But when doctor gives injections at the "back"....then you just can't sit after that!!..lol Yes thats the thing I hate otherwise its all ok. I am not that afraid of them. :)

hi stella c",) i admire your patience it taking the pain of injections. Why do you always have to take these injections? is it for medication? I'm sorry to ask my friend but thinking about the pain you endure in every shot, makes me wanna cry... i'm just not immune to pain, donating blood really doesn't hurt much but for you, haaay just so painful if you can't stand after..tc my friend, i hope you're ok now.

I'll only partially answer this. My partial answer is that I don't mind needles. They've never bothered me. I do, on the other hand, HATE blood. A little blood from cuts or whatever is fine. Even a lot of blood from a bigger cut. but blood gushing or blood in a bag or blood in a need is completely gross! the giving blood, do I? question I won't answer. I will however say that I'm aenemic and my blood is no good.

Hi mycharm88! I am not really afraid of needles. Yes, I do agree with you that donating blood is healthy because they say that it helps in the healthy circulation of blood within us, like it makes us produce new red blood cells.. Oh, I am no expert, I just heard them saying it. haha.. I tried donating blood before but I was advised not to by the medical doctor heading the blood donation program at St. Luke's Hospital at that time because I am hypotensive. Well, maybe if my blood pressure will be regulated and will be healthy, I will be donating blood. Take care and have a nice day.

Havent donated yet.Im a doctor and i dont get scared of needles. But I had a tough time during my 1st year in college when i had to take my blood myself for lab work and i was given a stilette.I had to close my eyes to do it.You could manage it if someone does it for you. My blood gp is o+ve.Since it is so common and hospital stocks are plenty i never had to go for a donation. But i will someday.

The sad thing for me is that eventhough I would like to give blood, I cannot because of the various medications that I am on. I do encourage others to give it a shot if they can though. As for me, I am not afraid of needles. I used to be a bit nervous about them, but considering the fact that I get blood taken about once a month or so, it doesn't bother me at all now.

I am not able to donate blood now, because I am anemic. But, since adulthood, I have not been afraid of needles. When I went to school for Medical Assistant, we had to practice doing the shots on each other. It was fun and nerve wrecking at the same time for me. It was easier for me to take a shot than to give one.

I'm sorry to hear that you're anemic Rozie, hope you are taking medication or supplements for that. I used to be anemic too during my early teens but i had doctor check-ups and was advised to take iron supplements and now i'm ok. I hope you'll be ok soon...Same here i think it's easier to take a shot than to give one, i could imagine my hand shaking.lol!!!

I'm happy you are that courageous. As for me, I always love to do it but until now I don't realize it yet because I am very afraid of needles. During my medical examination at St. Luke for my US visa, I collapsed when they took a lil blood which they used for the lab test. Dang! It was an embarrassing situation for me since I am already 23 but I don't care because I am really afraid of needles. LOL
