What do you think about "little" dogs such as Chihuahua?

I think chihuahuas are cute. But misunderstood. Personally, I cringe when a little dog becomes "hot" - or any dog for that matter because I know that what follows is a lot of people impulsively getting a dog like that because its trendy. And then a lot end up in shelters afterwards because people don't know what they are getting into. It happened with Jack Russell Terriers when "Frasier" debuted - everyone wanted an Eddie. What they didn't realize is Moose and his son who shared the role of Eddie were specially trained dogs. When you get one in real life they are joyful little dogs but also extremely willful, tenacious and high energy. And a JRT may be very dominant and back your big dog into a corner. They require an owner who stays "on top of them" and is very imvolved with them. Now for chihuahuas, in the wake of the taco bell dog - it caused the backyard breeders and puppymillers to crank out tons of them because tons of people who shouldn't have would buy them. Paris kind of helped the trend continue unfortunately. I work in rescue and "little dogs" always were adopted from even the worst kill shelters but nowadays they don't always make it out because there are SO many of them. Anyways, I know that is more than you were asking. Yes, I think they are cute dogs - but they are not for everyone.

Hello there. I like all dogs but I prefer big dogs. My favorite breed is Golden Retriever. It's a tame and beautiful dog. Small dogs are usually hyper active and easily excitable. I have friends with Chihuahua. It's very cute but too hyper active for me. I think stars like Paris Hilton are making use of their dogs to display their riches. I do hope she treats her dog well. More importantly is the well being of their dogs.

To be honest I don't like "little" dogs. They all are very aggressive. I think because they have to compensate with the fact there small.

I really don't like that the "Stars" are using animals as fashion accessories. Honestly I don't think that most of the litte dogs are cute at all. It amazes me that they are able to bring them so many places. Little dogs tend to be more energetic. We have a small dog and honestly he's so much work that I wish we had got a cat instead.

Chihuahuas are becoming a hot item. Since they are small, they are very portable and you can carry them with you wherever you go. Used to be, i dont like chihuahuas because they dont seem that cute. Since i was used to seeing just small dog with hyper active atitude. But when we transfered to condo building, we cant keep our beagles with us since there was hardly any space for them so we decided to look for smaller dogs. In our search for the small dog breed to keep with us in our condo, we discovered that there are so many chihuahuas in terms of colors, size and looks. And some did caught our appeal that we decided to get one. We didn't know that chihuahuas will start own us. Once added to another by the time we know it we are collecting and breeding chis. And we did produce some good looking ones and also the not so good looking ones. But in our 4 years of taking care of chis, we do find them endearing, each having personality traits of their own. They are gusty little dogs and are charming and they really hit a spot in your heart.
