In my opinion, the 3 most important things that were crucial of the mankind are:the first man's landing on the moon, the invention of the computer and the invention of the internet.
It's needless to mention the enormous importance of the first landing on the moon.
Then, computer plays a very important part in the modern man's life.
The internet-We need to communicate and the internet help us do that.

I don't think 'landing on the moon' is that obvious, lol. Fifty years after the first spaceflight and almost forty years after the first moon landing, only a handful of people has ever gone into space. I see the significance of the event, but I don't really see the practicality. It just shows what one country is able to do, and doesn't seem to help mankind as a whole in any way.
My three events would be:
- The discovery of electricity. This eventually leads to AC power, the lightbulb, wireless transmission, mass production and automation, and computers. Mankind would still be living in the dark with oil lamps and travelling on steam-powered vehicles if not for electricity. It started the Industrial Revolution and eventually the Modern Age.
- The invention of the Internet. While computers are important, they were invented as massive calculators for war. The Internet 'flattened' the world, and allowed the free and instant communication between different races and cultures throughout the world. It provided a level market for everyone, regardless of geographical location.
- The Human Genome Project. Mapping out the human DNA sequence allowed scientists and medical researchers to better understand what makes a human. Eventually through this researchers will find the cure for cancer, and possibly the cure for every other disease out there. Maybe eventually humans will become immortal.

1. Protection of environment - presently it is highly abused and corrections have to be made on war footing.
2. It is control of population especially those countries like India (mine), china and other african nations. This control if exercised properly will help developing the economy as planned.
3. Finding new and renewable energy sources and further development to harness the solar energy, as we are reaching a stage where the traditonal sources are depleted.
