getting old?

Yesterday was my 25th birthday, which we celebrated with friends and family. Many people called me or asked me in person how I felt about reaching the quarter-century mark. Mostly my answers were just reminders that I am sort of in the middle in relation to my friends and family who range from age 14-70. But it got me thinking... what have I accomplished in the past quarter of my life? how do I stack up when compared to others my age? what changes should i make in my next 25 years?
I am glad that I finished graduate school, but wish that I were farther along in my career.
I love my dog, but sometimes wish that I already had a couple kids.
I have a nice car and some other nice possessions, but wish that I had the money to buy a house.
Maybe a birthday is a time of reflection rather than evaluation, of celebration rather than planning. I couldn't help but feel thankful when my birthday celebrations were ending and I thought about the great friends who had come to my birthday dinner, the many thoughtful cards I had received in the mail, and the hugs given by my closest family members. I can only hope to feel the same after my next quarter-century. =)
