Dreams for Insomniacs

I have trouble sleeping 'cuz I've always been an insomniac since high school.
These days I try to find ways to "convince" my body to get some rest ('cuz 24-36 hours of wide eyes is really bad for everybody's health) without resorting to those sleeping pills I used to take.
Anyway, I tried sleeping with a pillow on my head to muffle the sounds and to limit the light (though it's already pitch dark in my room). It worked sometimes.
One of my crazy friends suggested that I should read one of our medical books ... she says just a page takes her to snoozeville. It only made me bored and extremely sleepless (hehehe).
What makes you hit the sack aside from being tired? I'd like to know.
Thanks!

I too am an insomniac person. Sometimes it is hard for me to go to sleep even though I am tired and sleepy. What I do is I play some computer games or watch television for a few minutes or try to bore and tire my eyes, then from there it is easier to fall asleep. Good luck to all insomniacs out there!

Gee, from my own experience ... I get more aware when I'm watching TV, in front of the computer or playing a video game. I mean it's quite a distraction for me to sleep.
I'm envious it works for you.

I think what makes it difficult for me to sleep is the presence of light or movement. Maybe that's why I can't use the TV for sleep.

As an insomniac myself, I must say that I definitely know where you're coming from.
In my quest to catch that ever elusive sleep, I actually tried several things that really worked for me.
I did not resort to sleeping pills to take me to "snoozeville" or to snore kingdom, though.
So, in response to your question, I try to meditate before I hit the bed and it really works in calming my senses and silencing that disruptive inner voice which constantly tries to alter my natural Circadian rhythm.
Apart from meditation, I sometimes try to listen to hypnotic and meditative music in my ipod as I go to sleep and such greatly help in successfully bringing me to dreamland.
Another strategy that consistently works for me is to carbo load before sleeping because, if I'm not mistaken, carbs could help out in making you feel sleepy, as per the tv show I've once watched.
That being said, though, I try to let a reasonable amount of time to pass first before I finally go to sleep to avoid any health problems.
These are just some of the effective strategies I employ so that I could overcome my insomnia.
In the end, I could only truly hope that my sharing could somehow be of help in your fight against your insomnia.
Happy myLotting, overdosed! ;)

Carbo loading --- isn't the calories worrisome .... just asking? Hehehe.

I learnt to compose a scenario in my head where I was in front of an amazing historical building, in the sun, dressed comfortably and descending 10 marble steps. Counting these out slowly. When you get to the bottom it is a beautiful garden with birds tweeting etc and you walk over the grass, barefoot, beside a stream, slowly. You lie by the stream listening to the water and I generally fall asleep by then! Maybe it's boredom, who cares, it obviously works for some!

Wow, it seems a really serene scenario. Don't ya think it's better if that were for real? Hehehe.
--- if it were, I might fall asleep too.
Thanks!
