The importance of voting.

In recent years the percentage of people who vote in elections appears to be on the decline. I think that this is very troubling, and people need to be taught the importance of having a say in who runs the country. This is true in all countries where fair and democratic elections are held. Why should 70% or less of the people make a decision that affects everyone? Isn't it time that we all voted and then we would really know the will of the people? Blessings.

In the last Presidential election, I came into work with one of those 'I voted' stickers on my shirt. A girl I grew up with who also worked with me, commented on it. I asked her if she was going to vote after work, and she said no, she didn't think she was going to vote. Talking further she related to me she had never voted in any election. I just couldn't understand that. No matter what anyone says, our votes make a difference, no matter what party or group we belong to.

Hi AmbiePam, Thank you for responding, and I appreciate your support in this. I live in Canada and would like to see electoral reform, that would give the average person a greater say in how we are governed. This, however does not deter me from voting, as we still live in a great and free country, and I want to keep it that way. Blessings.

That is true my friend, but it seems that less and less people trust the system in which most of them thought would help them improve their lives. Believe it or not, there are lots of corrupt officials all over the world. SOme people got fed up, they don't know who to turn on to. But as for me, I still participate in these elections. I always go out and vote, voice my opinion as it is my right and power to put someone lead us.

Hi raijin, Thank you for responding. I agree with you, the system has many flaws, but that can only change as more people get involved. Continue to vote and encourage others to have their say as well. It's not too late to build a better world. Blessings friend.

I always vote and encourage everyone around me to vote and make a difference. We are always complaining ,but when is time to vote is so hard for some people to take a few minutes of their time to vote for those candidates who might make a difference. Popularity should not influence our votes ,but who can handle the job better.

Hi Mirita, Thanks for your comments. I agree it shouldn't be who is the most popular. Blessings.

I'm a voter. The women that came before me and fought for the right for women to vote are owed at least that much. My vote may not seem to make a difference but if everyone felt that way we would be screwed. I also look at other parts of the world where voting is non existent and these people live in dictatorships. That is the last thing I want so I think it is very important for everyone to study the people running and make a wise vote. I know of people that don't think it is important and every time an election comes I try and convince them that voting is the right thing to do. Now I sit back and wait for our next federal election in Canada so I can vote and hope to oust the goof we call Prime Minister before he damages the country anymore and sets us back another 20 years.

Hi Pose123! I do agree with you that voting is a right that we should exercise for the betterment of the society as well. Let us our voice be heard and vote the person with integrity and not the ones who just wants to enrich themselves with money and power. Take care and have a nice day.

Hi faith, Thank you for supporting me in this. If everyone listened to all sides, they would be better informed, and if we all voted, things would be much better. Blessings.

I think to vote is very important and if you don't vote, then you have no right to say anything about how this country is being run. I see many who complain and yet I wonder, did you vote? Maybe next time I see a complaint, I will ask that question..

When I was younger I was a devoted voter. I voted for everything I thought was right. As the years went on I say all the bs. The only time you see a politition is around the election. The polititions do nothing but lie. They say exactly what you want to here. No one I ever voted for got into office and no loan that I voted against got stopped. All my vote did was .... nothing. I have decided that our government is out dated. I also think that for the most part it is fixed. Politics is nothing but a gravy job. These people sit in office and make six and seven figures and don't have to pay a bill. They get trips and cars for just voting on bills and laws. I think I am very sinicle now. I refuse to sit and figure out who is the lesser of two evils and still the one I did not pick gets in. Maybe one day when the people get tired of the government taking their money, telling us what to do what to eat and when to go to sleep, we will impeach them all and start over. Stop paying these people so much money and they will not want to be a politition.

Hi sizzle, Thanks for commenting. I agree that there should be changes, and there are a lot of crooked politicians. The people I vote for don't usually get elected either, but I'm not going to give up. Blessings.

You're so right! I'm always amazed when someone tells me they don't vote, in many cases they've never voted and aren't even registered to vote; that's very sad in my mind because the ones who don't vote are often the ones being hurt the most by the decisions made by those who do get elected. But, on the other hand I've also spoken to some people who may or may not vote but they come up with some of the most off the wall comments that the idea of them voting actually scares me! Here's an example that blew me away, but I swear it's true: We all know Barack Obama is running for President, right? Well, a woman who works for the state where I live said to me this past summer how she wasn't sure who to vote for but then she said "I can't believe there's a guy whose real name is Osama BinLaden is running. I don't think I could vote for him!" You msy have heard jokes made about how "Barack" rhymes with Iraq and how is middle name is Hussein and that Obama rhymes with Osama. Well, this girl took it further and really seemed to believe it! I'm not saying this as a person who will or won't vote for Obama but as someone concerned at how some people may ultimately decide for whom to cast their vote. So, we need more people to vote and everyone to work harder at being truly, honestly well-informed! I could care less if someone bases their vote on an issue they happen to disagree with me about just that they know the issues and the truth, as much of it is really available, about the candidates for which they're voting. Hi annie, Thank you for commenting. This really goes to show that a lot of people don't take time to listen. It's not only important to vote, but also to listen to the issues and make informed choices. Blessings.

Actually, I don't vote. Simply b/c it seems to do no good. The Government puts whoever they want in office and so it just seems pretty pointless to me. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I think it is the duty of every american CITIZEN to vote. It is our right and we should take it seriously. After the mess of the last 2 presidential elections I think the public will take this one much more seriously and get out there and voice there choices. At least I hope they do.
