What would you do...... mother in law issue

I had the best job in the world, perfect hours, I got to pick my days off, I got paid weekly which is rare in my part of town, and I had my mother in law babysitting my three kids. My life could not have gotten any better. Then I got off work and went to my mother in laws to pick my children up, she was upset about her water bill and she started griping about everything and to make a long story short she quit watching my kids and caused me to lose my job. When I got home I called her and asked her why see was trying to hurt me because we have never had a disagreement before this one in ten years. She said you wont be my payee over my social security check so I am not scratching your back anymore and she hung up on me. The reason why I dont want to be her payee is because I am a mother to 3 young children and I dont need anymore responsibility also my husband doesnt want me to do it and it would cause marital problems between us. He thinks with him being her son if she cant trust him to be her payee that she need not ask his wife. What should I do?
