What is Romance?

Really what defines romance, what is considered romantic anymore? I would really love to know, just saying "I love you" apparently doesn't cut it any longer. Everyone wants romance, I want romance but I don't even know for sure what it is anymore. It seems like it would be easier for a man to be romantic, but how can a woman be romantic for a man who calls himself a hopeless romantic? I love him so much but I can't seem to give him the romance that he so desperately yearns for, so please tell me what would be your idea of romance?
