I do not write for Helium. So I can not answer your question about payment. I write for Associated Content and the pay is ok. You get paid per article and for page views.

I hope this helps you.

I second Associated Content as well. They are a great site to write for.

I write for helium. Haven't really discovered AC, so helium is basically it. I see about two dollars a month for the articles I have on there, and I don't have many at all. Haven't written anything new in a while, so the continued earning is sorta cool. Better than the one time payout you get through mylot. The content is regulated much better as well.

You really should check out AC. Just one article there will earn you more than the $2 you are receiving for all the articles on Helium.

The only things that I post on Helium are the articles that I could not publish on AC for upfront payment. Anything that gets declined on AC goes to Helium, because at least a few page views on Helium is some money, and the articles I put there are simply cut and paste, I do not write anything specifically for Helium.

Helium does not pay well AT ALL. I also write for AC, and they pay a lot better.
