Do Your Scars Hurt When The Weather Changes? Do You Have Scars?

I was in a pretty horrific car accident when I was 21--head on collison with a speeding Nova at about 55mph. Long story short, I wound up with quite a few scars. The worst is on my right leg (hopefully Mr. Right won't mind that, if I ever meet him). This one seems to hurt and ache whenever the weather changes. Why is that? Does anyone know? Have you experienced such a thing? My enquiring mind would like to know.

lol!!
geen man ziet me.lol
Life is full of surprises, I only hope you have more luck with men then I have had!
Take care,Groetjes Margajoe

What I've learned here is: It's all about the nerves being damaged or, at least, cut up at some point. Either that or we all have great imaginations. Which in my case, could be a problem. LOL. Yes, I am greatful to be alive and am on a quest to find Mr. Right. Well, I actually might have met him already he's just doesn't seem to know I'm alive. Oh, what to do, what to do? I'll be okay. Hehehehe, thanks Terry. Have a beautiful Wednesday.

I had a large operation for colon cancer and have a long scar on my stomach but it does not hurt or itch at any time. However, 2 months after that operation I was hit by a motorcycle and it broke my hip. I waited 2 months for surgery using crutches as I could not walk, now I have a titanium shaft in my leg. That starts hurting quite a lot usually the day before it starts to rain or when it is cold. So it seems that some hurt and some don't, although it is not the scar that hurts on my leg, it is the muscle inside. Good luck with Mr. Right!

I have had 2 quite major operations but only one is affected by the weather. I had an operation for burst appendix which has left a scar on my stomach about 12 inches long, that does not hurt or itch anytime. I then broke my hip after a motorcycle accident and had a titanium shaft inserted into my bone, leaving another scar around 12 inches long. The scar never irritates, but I get quite a lot of 'nagging' pain in the muscle when the weather is about to change, either the day before it rains or in the morning if it will rain at night. Cold affects it too. Good luck with Mr. Right!

I do have scars all over my body from skin cancer. All have been basil cell carcenoma which is not the dangerous cancer. Surgery is all that is required.
None of my scars ache with the changing weather. You might check with a dermatologist to see if there is something that would give you relief.
The difference might be that your scars involve areas in or around boney areas whereas my problems have been in fatty areas. This is just a guess since I am not in the medical field.

Hi CarolB, that's an interesting observation. My big scar is right next to my shin. Not to get all gross or anything, but I remember crying and asking the doctor, "What is that?" when I saw my shin bone from the inside. Lovely, I know. But you make sense. I'll see what a dermatologist might have for me. I've got to find one first. Haha. Thanks, my friend for your info.

I don't have any major scars so I wouldn't know personally. My s/o has some pretty significant scars on his hand and arm though from a water burn last summer...race car overheated, hose came off radiator, 240 degree plus water shot directly at him. They don't ache exactly but they itch and turn purple or red when they get cold. If he gets near heat they feel like they're burning again. I'll try to remember to ask him tomorrow if they ever ache.

Okay, my friend, it seems where ever your s/o roams adventure follows. LOL. He was working on a race car? Do tell. How horrible to feel a burning sensation every time he gets near heat. I guess staying away from heat sources would be a wise thing.

LOL you have no idea! He's got a story for just about anything you could come up with.
He was actually DRIVING the race car when it happened. It's a dirt car so there's no windshield. His helmet kept most of his face from getting burned. He's got two little red spots, one on each cheek and some other small scars on his chest and upper arm too besides the bad ones on his hand, wrist and lower arm. He's driven race cars since he was 16 and living in Alaska (see I told you finding his way to me took alot!)

Well I have a scar on my left leg. It was burnt by a motorbike for its venting pipe, which was so burning hot when I was getting off the motorbike of my friend's many years ago while visiting cultural relics. There was a huge water bubble immediately, so painful. Ever since an ugly scar has been there on my leg and it is very itching when the weather is cold and dry in winter. It doesn't ache, but itch leaving me so uncomfortable about the scar. It seems that it will be like this always because I have used some expensive medicine on my leg, but still no effect.

Sounds painful. My scars itches too. Sorry you had to go through that. I've been looking for medicine or a lotion that will take the scar away. Lots of promises no results though. Ah, we'll just say that our scars are only signs of healing. Right? Have a wonderful week, my friend.

oh william, oich. My daughter just burnt her leg on her brothers motorbike last week she too touched the pipe and it gave her a nasty burn peeling the skin back... I hope she doesn't get a scar from it. I am trying my hardest to do everything to prevent it...... She has been in a lot of pain but seems to be getting better, thank god....

I have a few scars, but the one that bothers me the most is the one on my thumb. I accidently electrocuted myself when I was 16 and got real nasty burns on my hands and that main scar on my thumb hurts it's still very tender to touch and can get really annoying at times.....

That's pretty scary Pinklilly. Being electrocuted can affect so many other parts of the body. Glad you made it through. The pain is annoying though. I'm right there with you.

I would think its not actually the scar that hurts but rather whats UNDER it....My entire body flips out and causes me much grief when the weather shifts but its not my scars (for example in my feet) but the bones etc and damage thats been done to them which has caused me arthiritis...Fibromyalga doesnt help matters any either :-(

Oh, I hurt for you, Ravenlady. I've heard much about Fibromyalga and I have no idea how one goes about life with such an infliction. There are three friends of mine that suffer from this and they have their good days. I pray for good days for you. Thanks for the info.

I have a very, very long scare across my stomach. This is due to a tummy tuck, & before that a c-section.
It never bothers me & has never hurt when the weather changes.
I wonder why yours does that? Could you rub a soothing cream on it perhaps?

It seems that it's time to visit the doc again and see what else he can prescribe. I am glad though that your scars don't hurt or ache. Must be that wonderful Aussie weather.

I got scar I had when I gave birth with my two daughter through CS. I never felt any pain with it ever since. But I heard some people feel pain when the weather change. I am not sure about it... I guess you just have to ask your doctor about that... so you can have remedy with that pain.
And yes, I think Mr. Right wont mind it if he really loves you... So dont worry. :)

Ah, thank you LW for your wonderful encouragement. And I think you're right about asking a doctor about pain from CS surgery. I'm sure there must be a little pain involved (with the scar I mean) but it shouldn't interfere with life. I wonder what a doctor would prescribe for that. We shall find out, I'm sure. Have a wonderful and blessed Wednesday.

Hi gtargirl,
The scar that I have on my belly from having my daughter via c-section either aches or gets really itchy when the weather changes.

Hi PurpleTeddyBear (such a sweet name), that's what I'm hearing over here. A C-section scar will hurt or itch when there's a change in the weather. Go figure. Has your doctor prescribed anything. I wonder if we could look all this up on WebMd or something. Couldn't hurt, I suppose. Thanks for dropping by and have a wonderful Wednesday.

That's...weird? I have plenty of scars. Accident scars. Random scars from who knows what. Burn scars. etc. etc. I get cut there's a good chance I'll scar. But none of them ever hurt... ever.
The ones in my forehead from a car accident (My mom and I were hit by a fully loaded dump truck coming down a hill) when I was 7 were weird up until about the time I was 21/22. They were numb. Like I could poke my forehead and wouldn't feel a thing, until I was about 21 or so the feeling started coming back. At this point (I'm 25) I have full feeling back but It's super sensative.
Now, when I was about 10 I broke my wrist and thumb. They DO hurt especially when it's going to rain. It's really weird.

Okay, with all those scars and burns I think your body is just plain confused and isn't sending any more pain signals. At least, that's my professional opinion, which of course no one should take seriously. But your once-broken bones now hurt. That is strange. Now, I too have no feeling on my scar but quite a lot around it. You've been through a lot, my friend.

True. But they say what doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger. Right?
Anyhow. The numb feeling is a normal occurance in scars. My scars on my forehead were from 18 stitches. Plus I was only 7 years old. It was a long time ago and I wasn't fully grown so that also had to do with it (I asked doctors).
The bone thing isn't unnormal either...as I've also asked doctors on that. what is abnormal is your problem of scars hurting during weather changes. I'd suggest asking a doctor.

Yes, my scars hurt when the weather changes and it's so refreshing that you've asked this question! I no longer will think that it's my imagination (: I have a large scar on my leg when the doc removed a cancerous tumor and scars on my other leg from a bad fall. I also have a scar from a c-section. When the barometric pressure changes, both the large scar and smaller ones are painful and ache nonstop. The c-section scar tingles every once in awhile but that's probably because I had this surgery 25 years ago!
I've associated my scar problems with the barometric pressure which also gives me headaches. Maybe it's the same thing with you?

It's definitely not your imagination. Wow, it sounds like you've been through quite enough in your life. And yes, I do get the headaches. I wonder if a chiropracter could help with that? In any case, here's to your health. Hang in there, my friend.

I almost cut my finger off when a bathroom sink fell off of a wall and the porcelain crashed and a piece cut my finger to bits. So, when it gets really cold, the scar on my finger will turn really white and it will throb a bit. Mostly it's my bones that I have broken that really hurt. My tailbone, and my right hand just kill me when it is cold and damp. I have scars all over. Now, in the winter time, my scar along my bikini line from where I had to have my fallopian tube removed, it gets itchy and dry from teh dry skin I have during the colder months, so I always have to put lotion on and take extra care of my skin at that time. As time goes by, the scarring does wear down a bit and is not so sensitive, but as with my finger, I still get a little throbbing but no pain anymore. But I have had that scar since I was 9 and I am now 35. Maybe I am just used to it lol.

I'm glad your scars don't bother you. That's always nice to hear. And yes, I'm glad to say that I survived that accident. It took a while for my hair to grow back after my head went through the window. I don't know how the skin grew back, but it did. Ah, I'm just greatful to be here. Have a wonderful night Marie.

I have scar because when I gave birth to my childre it was via ceasarian section. it really hurts when it is so cold. I can not stand the pain but I must bare with it since i can't do nothing about it. i sip hot beverages sometimes or place hot face towel on it. Which somehow relieves the pain.

I wonder if that is normal with a C-section? Maybe you should ask your doctor about that one. I know there is probably a little pain involved with that scarring but it shouldn't be debilitating. I would check it out. Of course, I've never had a C-section before, so who am I to say. But I do hope the weather stays warm for you. Have a blessed Wednesday.

I do have a minor scar on my forehead..At first it made me insecure to face people because they mislooked it as a pimple..it happened when i was 18 years old, my 2nd year in college..huh it was a teribble experience..i also experienced it aching when the weather changes especially when it is too hot..i can feel that my head will broke up..huh..i think it was one of the saddest moment in my life because from then on my sense of sight becomes duller..huh

Oh I'm sorry you went through that. It's sad that you have lost some sense of light. Wow! The things we go through. I hope it will make us all stronger. Is there something you can take for the pain when your head feels like breaking up. Yikes. That even sounds bad to write. And you don't feel bad anymore do you about having a scar? Hope not.
