When was the last time you actually wrote a letter or note to someone?

Handwritten letters a thing of the past? - handwritten letters and envelopes

When my uncle in San Diego was alive I actually wrote to him at least once a month! Yes, paper and pen in hand!!! He was actually the only person I have written to in at least 30 years. My how times have changed. I have 'penpals' in Australia and we email each other all the time and have not actually written one letter to each other. Between almost everyone having a pc and the high cost of postage I really don't see why anyone would bother writing a letter unless it was for business purposes and even they do most of their correspondance through the internet. So what does that tell us. Even the servicemen today have access to computers and keep in touch with family and friends via the internet. Has handwritten letter writing completely ended? Do you know anyone who actually writes letters or short notes to anyone? When was the last time you wrote a letter?

Well I write notes to people at work all the time. Pretty much on a daily basis. I also write notes to myself if that counts. I don't really write letters much and I've never been big on writing letters. I think postage prices are ridiculous and if you have email what's the point. I mean, It's good to still know how to do it. Notes for hubby/wife...boyfriend..things of that sort. But I don't know, I think if you have the internet, why not use it.

I was always a note writer when I was younger. Now it seems easier just to type. Cheaper too! I also have very large hand-writing so It would cost me a lot more to mail a letter than the average joe.

I write handwritten notes to my folks every now and then. Just a couple of weeks ago, I wrote my mother. An old friend (would have been a flame, but neither one of us acted on our feelings) from high school has promised she will write me, and as soon as I recieve that letter I'll carry on that old world communique with her... Doesn't it convey more thought, more personalization--a little romance, perhaps, to handwrite something?

It has been ages when I last wrote a letter to someone. In today's world of e-mail, it becomes difficult to write or send a letter to someone.

I still write letters. I have some friends who do not have a computer, so I can't email them. I also like to send birthday, get well and thinking of you cards and always write a note in them. I enjoy getting snail mail as well as email, so I write letters in order to get some! I do love the world wide opportunities that the computer and sites like myLot gives to us!

I did actually write someone a letter a couple of months ago, ctry. Your discussion touches on one that I did awhile back. I do feel that the art of writing letters is on the way to being lost-unless we do something about it. I have planned to join a penpal club, but have not gotten around to it. The internet does make things easier but sending an email just doesn't have the degree of warmth as a handwritten message.

It is really more than a year that I wrote any letter. Last year I had a chance to write 1-2 letters to my wife when we had leave separate nearly 2000 miles from each other due to some family urgency. We really wanted to change the current system.

Well these were not really long letters but when I first met my boyfriend I use to leave little letters in his lunch box every day so that way when he was eating lunch he would find it and perk up his day. Just little notes say that I love him and have a great day, or I would draw a silly picture just something that would make him smile and sent some cheer to him for working so hard. I use to also have a penpal when I was in 5th gread for about three years and then we kind of lost track of each other in time.

The last time that I actually wrote a note to someone was last year. I wrote one to my sister who went away to college for the first year. My parents and grandmother kept telling me how nice it would be. But I kept saying why write it when I can email it to them. They said because she will appriciate it more. I guess thats why people write letters instead of email because wouldnt you apprciate it more then an email.

I actually write handwritten letters every day. We have communication notebooks for both of our sons as a way to communicate back and forth with their teachers. So I write in both of them every day. So my answer would have to be this morning as the last time I wrote a letter. I will actually be writing in one of the books tonight. We tried using email to communicate and kept missing each other. The handwritten notes are working much better. So for us an actual old fashioned letter is still the best form of communication. I think the reason it's so successful is the ability to read and reply the same day. If we had to wait for the post office it would be a nightmare. A book of stamps lasts at least 9 months in our house so handwritten communication (other than Christmas cards) doesn't happen for us with family and friends. I do think it's a dying art.

My daughter does the same thing with my granddaughters teachers. Every day they write notes to each other and I think that's a great way for parents and teachers to keep in touch with what the kids are doing. You are so right about postage! It has become ridiculous and probably one of the reasons more people don't send letters and cards.

I think it is few days ago I wrote email every day for my mother. Since she is living far away from me, I always try to keep contact with her by email.
