My Uncle's daughter ran to me yesterday and asked me this question as stated above, i was dumb founded. Then i asked her how come about the question she said they were asked in school and she could not provide the answer so she decided that when she sees an elderly person she will ask. But to my greatest surprise I could not give her a definite answer that is why i decided to post it here. I told her to call me today for the answer. Please, help me out, which of them is more important water or fire?

Of all the answers above... only the first one "kwenge" got it right.
There is no life without water. No humans, no animals, no plants.
Animals and plants survive without fire... and so did the first prehistoric men.
The sun has nothing to do with fire and is irrelevant in this discussion.
As for all those people who could not live without fire because it would be too cold... that is why we invented clothes.
The first men were smart enough to live in Africa where it does not get cold. You have to use your brain if you want to survive.

Bravo Aussies, thanks for supporting my answer. You just read my mind. I really didnt give my thoughts to the sun because sun is not classified under fires but fire is classied under the sun. I myself live in Africa and I know what you are talking about. People from winter/ice place can move to Africa if they want to get warm (it called survival for the fittest). A biiiiiiiig thank you.

Well, so as not to offend the Sun, what kind of fire are we referring too? Big balls of flaming gases and what-not in space? Or wood burning, match lit fires here on Earth? If it is he former then I can not give a specific answer. It would be like asking if the brain or the heart is more important. If we are talking about the latter kind of fire then the answer is easier. Water would be more important in that case. People can live without earthly fire, they can not live without water. It would not be the existance we are accustomed to but we would survive.
If we didn't have fire, I would have a different screen name though! LOL

foxyfire33, i believe you are the best person to answer this question based on your screen name. you have not given the little girl the answer to her question. she called me last night saying they were asked in school to submit the assignment next week but i told her to give me time. fire is fire,no fire no food, no fire no light etc. every other things evolve round fire even the internet. water is also important but which of them is more important? water has no enemy, we use it all day same with fire, which is more valuable and important?

I'm not sure how I didn't answer the question....Let try again more simply. WATER is more important. People will die of dehydration without water. FIRE is not as important. Fire is a luxury people could live without.

Well,I think both is important in our life.I think we cannot live without heat and we cannot live without water. Both are essential in our life,I think so.

Well dear friend,if I question you which is important your bodyor soul, will you be able to answerspecifically-I guess body from the soul;cause lifegoes on when both are tangled together. In the same wayboth fire and waterare essential in our daily life.Without fire our life materialistically will bedark as it gives us both heat during winter when we sit by the fireside and also help us to cook delicious food.On the other hand water is also requiredto quench our thirst when we are tired;water is given to a dying man to quench his last thirst.Even the fishes we love to eatare found in water cause fishes exist in water.Hence no one can specifically differentiate as to which is important as both are essential.I hope now the kid can understand the matter.

I would have to say water because without it we wouldn't have it to drink or to cook with amoung many other things. Besides, on the Christian side of it, God created water. I honestly don't think he created fire but then again, what do I know?

i think water because water is more needed than fire/. thats my opinion but some how they say that fire is more needed but we all know that water give energy to us to sustain our needs if you dont have a food to eat water is more useful thing than fire..

It is obvious that water is more important than fire. Look at it this way, a human body is made of 75% water, so water is life, look at the plants - most plants without water they wither hence no food for the fire to burn. a person can die because of lack of water. I conclude it that "WATER IS LIFE"

Congradulations, you just upset the sun ( the biggest fire in the solar system ) & he has condemed you to being frozen into a human popsicle. All life ceases as the earth is frozen into a solid ball of ice.
The correct answer is that they are both equally inportant.

water is life! think about fire, if there is no fire how would people survive hunger? if there is no fire how would those living in ice regions survive? if there is no fire how electricity be generated? if there is no fire, how would technology be involked? if there is no ....infact one will be more important than the other.

i would say that if we really have to choose one of them, that would be water because man can survive longer withouth food, rather than water
but if i was to comment on this in school,i would say they are both as important, and i would explain all the reasons, and how man's life has evolved since they were discovered

Water is more important,; survival without it is impossible. The sun is not a fire but a massive nuclear fusion reaction. Whilst heat is necessary for life, fire is not

I think is water...
anyway...schools nowadays give too difficult homeworks...My mom told me that when my sister was in first grade in elementary school, they give her a homework that was difficult even for her (my mom graduated, ndXD)...same goes for me..I'm talking about languages only..maths or phisics is just more normal..XD don't you think so?

wow!i never think about the question like that!maybe we never escape from water and fire, for the question i think water is more important than fire,it is said that water is the source of life,of course fire is also very important,if no fire human would be back to history!

I think Fire.
If you had no fire, then there would be no heat, and without heat water would freeze. If you had fire for sure then you could melt the ice and have water!
This is my answer without really knowing what this question is based upon or if ther are other factors to even consider. Is that all she said to you? Just that, nothing else?

So far your responses to others' comments have proven one thing... the most important thing is neither fire nor water... it's nuclear explosions. :~D
